Our focus is making San Diego the safest County in the country. We do that by: * Increasing public safety awareness, to help people learn to be their own first responders * Helping fire departments obtain needed equipment and training: Due to the limited tax funding of most departments, we help firefighters buy new and replacement equipment, implement new technologies, and provide training * Identifying ways to look out for senior citizens We encourage all residents in San Diego County to help save lives, pets, property, and protect the environment. Find out how you can be a financial lifeline to our firefighters. Read more... CONTEST FIRE SAFETY PLAN To promote this year’s Fire Prevention Week (October 6-12) campaign, - Not Every Hero Wears a Cape. Plan and Practice Your Escape! - We are sponsoring a contest to encourage our residents to develop and practice their own home fire escape plan. NFPA statistics show that in 2017 U.S. fire departments responded to 357,000 home structure fires. These fires caused 2,630 related deaths and 10,600 injuries. Seven people died every day in a house fire in our country during 2012-2016. Two $500 prizes will be awarded during Fire Prevention Week: One for someone age 13 and under, and one for someone 14 and over.
