What is a gateway? Why do I need one?

If blockchains are vast reservoirs of data, POKT Network's Web3 Infrastructure
is the pipes and valves that move it around the ecosystem, and gateways are the
taps that make it easy to consume where & when you need it.

Gateways optimize performance, build and maintain value added features, and
cater for use cases and specific audiences.

Each Gateway is effectively its own decentralized RPC business but, instead of
building their own underlying infrastructure, they plug into POKT Network’s.
Kind of like how it might look if anyone could build a ride-hailing app on top
of Uber’s database and systems.

Can I just run my own gateway?

Soon.



Our second Web3 Gateway, Nodies, is open-sourcing their code and starting a
Gateway will become permissionless in the next major protocol upgrade.



There are major cost advantages to running a Gateway directly (the protocol
charges $0.85 per million relays) but there is complexity involved.

It makes most sense if privacy & censorship resistance is very important to you,
if you're building a Web3 Gateway as an RPC Protocol business or to add RPC to
your business, or if you're a project operating at sufficient scale for it to be
worth taking on that complexity.

How does a DAO help an RPC run better?

Did you know that when AirBnB and Uber went to IPO they petitioned the SEC to
enable them to give ownership to their supply side (the hosts and drivers)?


Meaningful ownership increases a project's resilience and supports innovation,
where it's effective. We've been recognized by Messari for our thought-leading
governance. There is still a lot to learn but we wouldn't be where we are today
without our empowered DAO community.

How do we DAO at POKT Network?

We may be the only revenue generating web3 protocol not to be governed by pure
token weighted voting.

Our governance model has a gini coefficient of 0 (perfect equality).  Builders
have always had a strong voice in governing the protocol, on a 1 person 1 vote
basis. Modular Governance is our latest proposed upgrade to that system, aiming
to close remaining gaps in representation and reduce friction in participation.

Why run a node on POKT?

Node providers earn rewards by servicing RPC requests.

Running a node on POKT Network is an easy way to monetize your existing
infrastructure if you already run a full node for any of the blockchains that
POKT Network supports. Node operators just need to focus on their own uptime and
performance, as the protocol and the gateways handle the rest. As one of our
