PORTUGAL DAY

 


Keeping Europe behind its borders while being open to the ocean they’ve mastered
best, Portugal has had the same defined borders since 1139, making it the oldest
nation-state in Europe and today the 10th June, the country celebrates its
National Day.

This is a day commemorating the death of its national literary figure and poet
Camões. He wrote Os Lusíadas (usually translated as The Lusiads), Portugal's
national epic poem. The poem focuses mainly on the 15th-century Portuguese
explorations and is considered one of the finest and most important works
in Portuguese literature. According to popular folklore, Camões saved his epic
poem by swimming with one arm while keeping the other arm above water. Since his
date of birth is unknown, his date of death is celebrated as Portugal's National
Day. Here is an extract from Os Lusíadas:

That the Nymphs of the Ocean, so beautiful,
Tethys and the angelic painted Island,
Are none other than the delightful
Honours that render life sublime

Although celebrations were suspended during rough times in the 20th century, but
they resumed later on to even include Portuguese emigrants and their descendants
living in communities all around the world. The celebrations involve various
military ceremonies, exhibitions, concerts, pageants and parades, and an awards
ceremony by the President of the Portuguese Republic.

RUSSIAN DAY




From the Far East to the doorsteps of Western Europe, and from Tsar to the
world’s first peoples’ Union, the biggest country in the world stretches across
two continents covering 17 million sq km (6.6 million sq miles), accounting for
more than one ninth of Earth’s terrestrial area. This is Russia and today 12th
June, it celebrates its National Day. Russia Day is the Day of adoption of the
declaration of state sovereignty of RSFSR (Russian Soviet Federative Socialist
Republic) back in 1990. The passage of this Declaration by the First Congress of
People's Deputies marked the beginning of constitutional reform in the Russian
Soviet state.

On this occasion, people may attend concerts and fireworks that take place in
many cities throughout the country. Prominent Russian writers, scientists and
humanitarian workers receive State Awards from the President of Russia on this
day. Naturally, most public offices and schools are closed on June 12. Since the
day commemorates the Soviet Union's dissolution, it brings back bitter memories
for some. This is because the dissolution initially led to harsh times the
country has faced.

In contrast, peoples flow to the streets with high spirits of joy to celebrate
this occasion. One of the celebrations in Moscow showcased a three-hour concert
and concluded a six-month contest over the "Seven Wonders of Russia". In Red
Square, 20 lines of stage pyrotechnics, confetti cannon in the colors of the
Russian flag and 100 guns. Many Russians think that this holiday is Russia's
Independence Day, but the holiday has never had such a name in official
documents.

Russia’s climate is mainly cold as it’s adjacent to the North Pole. However, the
country has a moderate European climate during spring and summer. So it’s a
thrill to the visit this diverse country for tourism or business purposes. If

ICELAND NATIONAL DAY

 


Early Democracy at Sea:

Born from the sea, it is home to Europe’s first parliament. Iceland today 17th
June is celebrating a very special day. Back to 1262, Iceland lost its
independence to the Norwegian crown and later became a Danish colony in 1380,
but in 1944 the country gained its independence. The date was chosen to coincide
with the birthday of Jón Sigurðsson, a major figure of Icelandic culture and the
leader of the 19th century Icelandic independence movement, who fought hard for
Iceland to gain independence, although he was not around when it finally came.
So Happy Birthday Jón.

Each year one woman is selected to be the 'Lady of the Mountain', that serves as
the female incarnation of Iceland. She dresses in the national costume and leads
the parade, before reading a poem by the statue of Jón Sigurðsson at
Austurvöllur square, where the parade ends. Icelanders celebrate this holiday on
a national scale. The celebration traditionally takes the form of a parade
through each urban area with a brass band at the fore. Riders on Icelandic
horses often precede the brass band and flag bearers from the Icelandic scout
movement traditionally follow the brass band.




An Ideal Location for Investors and a Business-Friendly Environment:

Iceland is located midway between Europe and North America. This North Atlantic
island has an area of 103,000 km2. It is world-renowned for its economic
advancement, social stability, and technological innovation, and is continually
ranked as one of the preeminent societies on Earth. Keflavik Airport near

all over the world. Flight duration is 2.5-5 hours to Europe and 5-6 hours to

authorization, passengers travelling from Iceland would be able to clear US
customs and passport control at Keflavik International Airport.

To add, Iceland’s corporate income tax of 20% is one of the lowest in Europe and
among the OECD member countries. For more than a decade, the government has
tailored packages of measures to fit wage contracts negotiated in collective
bargaining between employers and unions.

(FTA) with China, signed on April 15, 2013. Combined with Iceland membership of
the common European Market, its ideal location between North America and Europe,
as well as an advanced business environment and infrastructure, this FTA opens

market.
