BILLIONBRICKS

Solving the global housing and climate crisis, one sustainable home at a time

Rapid growth of the developed world has widened the inequality gap. businesses
like BillionBricks and its strategic partner ENGIE Factory are banking on these
same advancements to build communities for the homeless and vulnerable, giving
them an opportunity to emerge from poverty.

Singapore-based BillionBricks has constructed these income-generating, carbon
neutral homes in the underserved communities of Sri Lanka, India and the
Philippines.

ENGIE Factory has also partnered with EDB to launch a portfolio of zero-carbon
start-ups in Singapore. These new ventures will help businesses in Singapore and
Southeast Asia decarbonise in a faster and more profitable manner.

GRAB

Creating economic empowerment for all

With the world going digital, there is a greater need for people to have digital
literacy skills. Grab, the leading superapp in Southeast Asia, believes that
technology can empower communities of different backgrounds.

Under its Grab For Good initiative, Grab uses technology to help small
businesses, budding entrepreneurs and communities grow and become more
resilient. In addition, the Singapore-based tech firm, which operates across the
delivery, mobility and digital financial services sectors, is also committed to
building a more inclusive world, constantly promoting and supporting diversity
in their hiring policies.

The company also works with other tech businesses to do more good in the region.
In 2020, Grab collaborated with Mastercard, Microsoft and International Finance
Corporation to give its partners an opportunity to upskill in order to thrive in
the digital economy. Through this GrabAcademy training programme, Grab upskilled
1.7 million partners cumulatively.

HYUNDAI MOTOR GROUP

Driving progress for humanity and a more sustainable future

Next-generation technologies. Evolving market conditions. Shifting consumer
attitudes. For South Korean automobile leader, Hyundai, these factors present
the perfect opportunity to steer their business towards doing good for
generations to come.

In Singapore, Hyundai is going full-speed ahead in its commitment to advance
manufacturing technology for a more sustainable future. The company announced
plans in 2020 to set up the city-state’s first Electric Vehicle (EV)
manufacturing facility, the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Centre in Singapore
(HMGICS). And this is just the start.

HMGICS will also be leading the launch of new mobility business concepts for
Hyundai. These concepts will essentially be the first steps towards transforming
our journeys for greater sustainability.

Additionally, in partnership with local companies, academic institutions and
startups, the facility will conduct research and identify opportunities for the
deployment of low-carbon solutions – bringing Singapore closer to an
emissions-free tomorrow.

ILLUMINA

Unlocking the future of healthcare through next-generation genome sequencing.

As our world's population ages, the prevalence of chronic diseases rises all
over the globe. It is now more important than ever before that we continue to
look for new ways of treating and curing these diseases.

Illumina, the global market leader in genome sequencing, understands just that.
Its focus on genomics is opening up new possibilities of predicting, diagnosing
and treating diseases more precisely and personally. Since setting up here in
2008, Singapore has become Illumina's largest global manufacturing site. It is
also the only facility in the world that manufactures a full suite of products
for its next-gen DNA sequencing machine, the MiniSeq System.

More recently, it leveraged its next-generation sequencing technology to
identify the first COVID-19 strain. This allowed researchers to track the
transmission routes of the virus across the globe, and detect mutations quickly
to prevent the spread of new strains.

NCS

Harnessing technology and innovation to advance our communities

NCS is driven by its purpose to advance communities. One of the ways this has
come to life is through their work with governments and enterprises to help
combat COVID-19. This has been through facial recognition-powered thermal
cameras to facilitate visitors, an employee management system allowing for
better contact tracing, and by deploying robotic process automation to minimise
the transmission risk for frontline workers.

For 40 years, NCS has played a part in developing Singapore into one of the most
technologically advanced countries in the world. The innovations and systems
they create touch many aspects of the lives of people.

Healthcare is just one part of NCS' portfolio. The business aims to do more for
public service, education, transport, finance and enterprise.

NESTE

Turning the waste of today into the fuel of the future

As the conversation about climate change gets louder, more and more businesses
are looking to reduce their carbon emissions and make the change for a better
world.

Neste, the world’s leading provider of renewable diesel and sustainable aviation
fuel, is helping to propel this change. Its proprietary NEXBTL technology turns
a wide variety of renewable raw materials such as used cooking oil and animal
fats into renewable liquid fuels and renewable raw materials for polymer and
chemical production – creating a sustainable, circular economy.

Neste has their Asia Pacific commercial hub set up in Singapore and their
refinery here has exclusively produced renewable fuels since 2010. The business
plans to further expand its refinery in Singapore and also aims to strengthen
its R&D and innovation capabilities globally with the investment of a new R&D
centre in the city-state.

SEA

Bridging communities across the world

More and more people around the world are turning to digital platforms for
entertainment and socialisation. Garena, the online games development and
publishing arm of Sea, a Singaporean start-up, is helping people stay connected
and entertained in this current climate by introducing more social and community
features in its ever-popular games. Its self-developed, mobile battle royale
game, Free Fire, was the world's most downloaded mobile game in 2019 and 2020.

The Singaporean company is also connecting communities through its other
businesses. Shopee, its e-commerce arm, connects buyers and sellers through a
trusted online shopping platform. This enables everyone, especially the small
and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the region, to grow and thrive online.

SeaMoney, its digital financial services arm, empowers more consumers and
businesses to benefit from the growth of the digital economy. Additionally, the
company provides digital skills training for SMEs looking to digitise their
businesses, allowing more local companies to reach a global audience.

SHIOK MEATS

Cultivating a new way of feeding the world

The global demand for seafood is on the rise. And with it comes the need to
develop alternative methods of sustainable aquaculture.

Enter Shiok Meats. The Singapore start-up uses cellular agriculture technology
to create sustainable seafood from stem cells of crustaceans like shrimp, crab,
and lobster. This groundbreaking process can grow crustaceans four times faster
than conventional methods, allowing for more people to have access to
nutritious, sustainable seafood alternatives.

And this is just the beginning. Shiok Meats is continuously growing its
offerings – most recently with the acquisition of a cultivated red meat company.
The company also plans to build its first state-of-the-art production facility
in Singapore to help meet its 2023 product launch goal, which will help bring
about a better tomorrow.

SKY GREENS

Sowing the seeds of change to feed future generations

Climate change, land constraints, unpredictable weather conditions. These are
just some of the challenges that conventional farms face.

Singaporean urban farm, Sky Greens, has developed innovative solutions in
response to these issues. The local start-up created the world's first
low-carbon hydraulic-driven urban vertical farm, and its farm employs an
ingenious water-pulley system to water the crops, which are housed in metal
tower frames that go as high as three storeys. These rotating towers use about
as much electricity as a small lightbulb, and they are built in glass buildings
that allow all plants to get a uniform amount of sunlight all-year-round.

Through these solutions, Sky Greens is able to reliably produce fresh vegetables
throughout the year. Since its opening, the business has expanded globally,
bringing its award-winning and patented technology to Thailand, Malaysia,
Vietnam, China, Denmark, Portugal and Canada.
