DOW JONES REBOUNDS 400 POINTS FRIDAY, STOCKS LOG BACK-TO-BACK WEEKLY GAINS

U.S. stocks rebounded strongly Friday, perking back up a day after the S&P 500’s
longest win streak in two years was snapped. The Dow Jones Industrial Average
DJIA closed about 391 points higher Friday, or 1.2%, ending near 34,283,
according to preliminary FactSet data. The S&P 500 index SPX gained 1.6%, while
the Nasdaq Composite Index COMP advanced 2.1%. Stocks rallied as the 10-year
Treasury yield BX:TMUBMUSD10Y pulled back to 4.627% as of 3 p.m. Eastern, but
still booked a weekly advance. The rally in stocks came a day after Federal
Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell threw cold water on the equity rally, saying that
higher rates might still be needed to tame inflation. For the week, the S&P 500
gained 1.3%, while the Dow rose 0.7% and the Nasdaq advanced 2.4%. It marked
back-to-back weakly wins for all three equity indexes.

INTEL’S STOCK FLIRTS WITH HIGHEST CLOSE IN 15 MONTHS

Intel Corp. shares INTC were up 2.8% in afternoon trading Friday and flirting
with their highest close in more than 15 months, according to Dow Jones Market
Data. The stock traded as high as $38.99 earlier in the session and recently
changed hands at $38.86. A close above $38.86 and below $39.71 would make for
the stock’s highest finish since July 28, 2022. Friday’s rally comes on a day of
strength for chip stocks, with the PHLX Semiconductor Index SOX up nearly 4%.
Earlier Friday, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. TSM posted a 34.8%
sequential increase in revenue for the month of October in a positive signal for
the sector.


MICROSOFT STOCK SURGES TOWARD ANOTHER RECORD CLOSE, HAS ADDED ABOUT $308 BILLION
IN MARKET CAP IN 11 DAYS

Shares of Microsoft Corp. MSFT hiked up 2.4% afternoon trading Friday, toward
its third record close in the past four sessions. The stock has now soared 12.6%
over the past 11 sessions, in which is has gained 10 times, including a nine-day
winning streak through Nov. 8 that was the longest such streak since the 9-day
stretch that ended Nov. 19, 2019. During those 11 sessions, the stock has added
$307.8 billion to its market capitalization. Microsoft is the second-largest
component in the S&P 500 SPX with a market cap of $2.745 trillion, behind only
Apple Inc. AAPL at $2.891 trillion. The rally kicked off a couple days after
Microsoft reported bumper quarterly results. Market research firm Bespoke
Investment said Friday that Microsoft has joined Apple as the second individual
company that has a larger market cap that the combined market caps of the
companies that make up the Russell 2000 index RUT of small-capitalization
companies.
