                            About Us

                                                     Welcome

Chartered by the Martin County Sheriff's office, Law Enforcement Exploring Post
911 has provided an educational resource for young males and females that are
interested in law enforcement as a future profession.  Exploring is a division
of the Boy Scouts of America-Learning for Life.  Started under direction the
Sheriff Mac Manning, later under direction of Sheriff Neil Elks; Sheriff Dan
Gibbs of the Martin County Sheriff's Office picked up Explorer Post 911 after
Sheriff Neil Elks of Pitt County dropped the program, the Post is now under the
direction of Martin County Sheriff Tim Manning.  Volunteer officers,
dispatchers, and clerks provide training and supervision on station and in the
community.  A very large percentage of explorers determine that law enforcement
is a profession worth pursuing, and go on to study criminal justice and law
enforcement in college.  Martin County Sheriff's Office explorers will grow to
become police officers, state troopers, federal agents, military police,
business persons, Deputy Sheriff and productive members of the community.

We are very proud of all explorers.

What is Exploring?

Exploring's purpose is to provide experiences that help young people mature and
to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to
investigate the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships and
communities.

Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship between youth and the
organizations in their communities. Local community organizations initiate a
specific Explorer post by matching their people and program resources to the
interests of young people in the community. The result is a program of
activities that helps youth pursue their special interests, grow, and develop.
