Question, Persuade and Refer (QPR) – Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention is a 90-minute educational program designed to teach professionals as well as let people how to be “gatekeepers” for suicide prevention. A gatekeeper is typically defined as an individual who is in a position to recognize potential warning signs and support a person in crisis or who may be experiencing thoughts of suicide. The process follows three steps: (1) Question the individual's desire or intent regarding suicide, (2) Persuade the person to seek and accept help (3) Refer the person to appropriate resources. Trainees receive a QPR booklet and wallet card as a review and resource tool that includes local referral resources. The training is delivered by certified QPR gatekeeper instructors.
