Associates helps emerging market governments and businesses increase
productivity and compete in international markets. Businesses in emerging
economies often face excessive government regulation and red tape, poor
infrastructure, difficulties obtaining land, and challenges accessing export
markets. We help them advocate for better policies and regulations, improve
access to export markets, and strike agreements with international partners. We
work with governments to adopt more business-friendly policies and policies and
regulations, make public agencies more responsive to business needs, and provide
the services and infrastructure businesses need in order to thrive.

We work with ministries of finance to make taxation fairer and with ministries
of industry, ministries of trade and industry, and investment and trade
promotion agencies to increase knowledge of and access to international markets
and investors. We work with a variety of government agencies and private
investors to develop industrial parks, technology parks, agricultural
development zones, and special economic zones, to provide businesses a
streamlined and more efficient regulatory environment together with reliable and
affordable access to customs clearance, serviced land, transport networks,
industrial buildings, water and sewerage, electricity, telecommunications, and

BUSINESS ENVIRONMENT REFORM

Emerging economies often have difficult business environments. Regulations can
be complex and their application arbitrary. Institutions lack capacity and
transparency. We work with governments to improve and streamline regulations and
bureaucratic procedures, and create a more welcoming environment. We help
business associations engage with government to advocate for reform and we work
with multiple stakeholders to prepare new investment and industrialization
policies, laws, and regulations.

INVESTMENT PROMOTION

Investment agencies often act as gatekeepers rather than facilitators. With
experience of investment promotion in more than 40 countries, we bring knowledge
of global best practices and in-depth experience of institutional reform. We
help these organizations treat both foreign and domestic investors as clients
and to provide them with information, support, facilitation, and post-investment

Investors in emerging economies can face difficulties getting investment
approvals, serviced land, utilities connections, visas and work permits for
foreign employees, and building permits. . Special economic zones for
industrial, agricultural, tourism, and other activities can provide a
streamlined regulatory environment that facilitates access to land, utilities
connections, and approvals and permits, as well as an improved built environment
that offers reliable security, utilities, and transport links. Such zones often
offer temporary exemptions from import taxes and duties. We advise governments
on national economic zones development strategies and assist in drafting
effective legislation and regulatory institutions. On behalf of public and
private sector clients we carry out feasibility studies and assist in raising
finance and structuring public-private partnerships.
