How long will it take to process my application?

We can’t tell you exactly how long it will take to process your application.
Each application is different and takes a different amount of time to process.
We can give you an estimate, based on your application type.

Do I become a Canadian citizen when I marry a Canadian?

No. Marrying a Canadian citizen doesn’t give you citizenship.
If you want to become a Canadian citizen, you must follow the same steps as
everyone else. There isn’t a special process for spouses of Canadian citizens.

How do I help a family member or friend apply to visit Canada?

Anyone who plans to visit Canada must apply from outside of Canada before they
travel. What your friend or family member needs depends on:
The type of travel document they will travel with;
The country that issued their travel document;
Their nationality; and how they will travel to Canada.

Do I need any permission from government to work in Canada?

Yes. Your employer may need to apply for a new Labour Market Impact Assessment
(LMIA), which is a document from Employment and Social Development Canada that
says the employer is allowed to hire you.
If you are exempt from the LMIA process, your employer will need to pay the
employer compliance fee and submit a new offer of employment.
You can then apply for a work permit.

Why do I need to get a police certificate for certain applications?

IRCC use police certificates to find out if you have a criminal record. They
help immigration officers make sure you are not a security risk to Canada.

Can I come to Canada with criminal history?

Depending on the circumstances, offences committed, nature of the offence in
certain cases you can apply for a rehabilitation or authorization to come to
Canada.
