WE’RE IN BUKEDEA DISTRICT




Bukedea District – is not exceptional in terms of poverty, with 54% of the
population in absolute poverty, and 20% malnourished. – UNDP

Majority of Bukedea district is characterized by;

 * Inadequate and unsafe water supply in most villages, making thousands
   vulnerable to waterborne diseases;
 * Low quality primary and secondary education as a result of poor and
   inadequate teachers and poorly equipped and overcrowded schools;
 * Ill-equipped tertiary institutions;
 * Ill-equipped hospitals, health centres and other health facilities;
 * High incidence of destitute children who lost parents through disease or war;
 * Food shortages and malnutrition in the drought and flood hit areas;
 * High childhood marriages;
 * High poverty levels;
 * Dependence on firewood for cooking; and
 * Heavy reliance on agriculture a means of livelihood.
