I hope this video helps you to understand that cantering on a horse is an ACTIVE
process for the rider and "sitting still" is probably the worse thing you could
do. Thank you for watching.

Thank you for this video! My instructors are pretty...bare...with their
instruction. I just get yelled at to sit back, but no explanation at all. This
was so helpful!

i have cantered before a tiny little bit in an arena, like maybe for 4 or 5
strides then i would lose my footing or my balance and have to stop. I watched
this video yesterday, knowing i would be riding today, trying to muster up the
courage to go outside and really canter. This video was so incredibly helpful,
knowing how my hips are supposed to move and even though it wasn't mentioned,
how my feet should be so my foot doesnt slip out of the stirrup (3 mo. out from
a broken ankle, foot keeps slipping out) . It was helpful to know how my arms
should be fluid in the elbow too, although i did pull back a lot still bc of
fear and to get her to slow downt to stop...but i kept going, out in the long
field, and Tweed gave me a lot of patience and a lot of trials and finally...i
started cantering naturally with my hips. I didn't realize they would be turned
a bit, as well as my shoulders...i thought i was doing something wrong, but i
gave in to that bc i didn't really have a choice...if i tried to sit perfectly
straight hipped, i would be off balance and almost fall off. So once i gave into
her body movements, and just let go...we cantered for a good distance and it
wasn't bumpy or anything. It was like we were the same body...so cool!!! Thank
you for giving me great direction to give me the confidence to try to canter
with one of the most amazing horses in the world, Tweed

Very good down to earth advice. I am 64 and have ridden forever but am really
struggling with my canter. Following your on the ground exercise has made me
realise just how stiff my hips have become. Now I have something to work on.
Thank you.

The explanation of the movement happening helped so much!!! My canter still
needs improvement, but it’s getting there :)

Rebel is such a good boy!! He's very balanced and gorgeous. You explained
sitting at the Canter very well. In Canada or North America I should say, we
have two schools which never made sense to me, the Hunter/Jumpers and Dressage.
I was trained since early childhood in the Hunter/Jumper world and it frustrated
me because they teach you to be ahead of the vertical most of the time which
causes the horses to be hallow and not relaxed or on the bit. And they don't do
enough work on the flat for horse and or rider. You see a lot of bums in the air
and horse's noses in the air, falling in around corners, leaning on the forehand
etc... I always felt better at the vertical, sitting in the saddle and going
with the motion as we do in dressage and it's correct all around for everyone.
What helped me to really get that deep quiet seat was no stirrups.... a lot! And
letting my stirrups down 4 holes! lol Great advice, your position is spot on and
it shows in Rebel!! Thank you!!

Everything you do resonates with me, and especially the sitting trot helped me
so much. I usually feel like a bouncing potato. There are two horses near where
I live and the lady that owns them has said that I'm welcome to visit and ride
if I want, but I don't know these horses, and it's been ages since I rode last
time. I will try to get to know them better, ask about them and always get off
if I don't feel safe. Your videos really help me to "reconnect" with what I used
to know. Thank you so much.
