WHAT IF WE CAN GROW A FOREST BOUNDARY ZONE THAT SUPPORTS NATURE AND PEOPLE? Seeing the ravaging deforestation near Turaco Treetops lodge it was time to act. On its 40-acre demo site, the Chris Roberts Forest Foundation (CRFF): * nurtures a buffer that shields the habitat of chimpanzees, elephants and birds; * showcases a productive agroforestry model for farmers. Working with communities around the entire Kibale Forest, CRFF supports the growth of forest boundary zones where nature and people both benefit. * Protect * Grow * Thrive The foundation is named in loving memory of Chris Roberts, who had an immense and infectious passion for wildlife and conservation. WHAT WE DO CONSERVATION We identify and secure patches of rain forest outside the park boundary and safeguard them from deforestation. REFORESTATION We recover degraded land through natural regeneration and by planting indigenous trees. AGROFORESTRY We develop agroforestry zones where native trees grow alongside trees with commercial value. These areas form a green transition between forest and community land and generate extra income for farmers. COMMUNITY ACTION We develop and learn together with farming communities. Our practices are tested and shared so we find a mix that benefits communities, the forest and its unique wildlife. UPDATES FROM THE FOREST Meet our agroforestry expert and field manager Education is key in promoting agroforestry Without food forests human-nature conflicts remain KIBALE FOREST CRFF focuses its conservation efforts on the boundary zone of Kibale National Park in Western Uganda. The park forms a conservation belt together with Queen Elizabeth National Park, providing a 180 km-long wildlife corridor. Kibale Forest is rich in flora and fauna. It is known as the “primate capital of the world” as it is home to a big chimpanzee population and 12 other primate species. 766 SQ. KMS 1,500 CHIMPANZEES 766 SQ.
