RICE NUTRITION

One of the most widely eaten food crop in the world, rice provides nourishment
to more than half the world’s population. Being a staple food, it is cultivated
during winters and summers, both. Being grown in 4000 varieties every year, it
supplied more than one fifth of the calories that are consumed by humans.

Rice is one of the most grown cash crops in developing countries and is also the
oldest of the cereal crops that humans cultivated. The first form of rice was
grown in China about 5000 years ago and since it was a major food supplement, it
got commercially cultivated as a cash crop in half the world.

Rice contains nutrients that are vital to the body and give it energy. Nutrients
such as carbohydrates are found in rice which is also an important source for
storing energy inside the body so that it grows properly. Because rice nutrition
is low on salt, cholesterol and fat, it keeps the heart healthy.

Rice being of two types; brown and white rice, has a high quantity of
carbohydrates in it and mixing these 2 rice can be beneficial. The only major
difference between the two types is that white rice goes through a milling
process whereas, the brown rice does not. However, it is believed that the
milling process is not favorable for white rice nutrition as it removes
nutrients such as B3, B1, B6, dietary fiber, the essential fatty acids, and half
quantity of iron, phosphorus and manganese. It is known that brown rice has more
nutrition and fiber as the white rice has its outer coating removed.

White Rice Nutrition contains carbohydrate (89%), some protein (8%) and little
fat (1%). It also consists of some dietary fiber, calcium, and potassium.

On the other hand, brown rice nutrition is rich in quantity of 83% carbohydrate,
9% of protein and 7% of fat. It also has dietary fiber (6x more than white
rice), calcium and potassium (about double amount as in white rice)

Rice nutrition also has a low content of sodium and contains favorable amounts
of potassium, thiamin, B vitamins and niacin. Usually, people who are trying to
reduce cholesterol and fat intake seek rice as the solution since it only has a
slight trace of salt and absolutely no cholesterol. It is also gluten free so is
easily digested. It is suitable for vegans and brown rice is particularly
popularly used in vegetarian dishes.

It is known that an average portion of rice nutrition is capable of providing
about 11% of the expected average daily necessity of protein and on share it
only has 245 kcal.”


A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE HISTORY OF MULTIVITAMIN

The first commercially produced multivitamin was introduced in 1934. It was a
nutritional supplement that contained more than the usual vitamins A and D. The
product was made from dried and concentrated natural vegetables and fruits.
Since then, the development of nutritional vitamins and minerals accelerated and
became more widespread.

The history of modern multivitamin and mineral supplements is very recent.
However, investigations on the health benefits of foods and their effect on the
human body can be traced back since the ancient Sumerian civilization.

The Early Appreciation of Good Nutrition

Ancient civilizations already knew that foods could play a big role in
maintaining good health. Shamans, medicine men, and scholars believed that
certain foods have medicinal properties and eating them regularly could treat
illnesses.

The ancient Sumerians were the first to avidly study the nutritional and
medicinal values of foods, specifically exotic herbs, roots, plants and

the rich knowledge base for nutrition and food-borne medicines.

The Modern Period and Popularization of Multivitamin

The knowledge base about food nutrition and food factor started by the ancients
was further systematized in the early modern period. As technology advanced,
experts were able to isolate substances that can be found in foods. As early as
17th century, it was believed that a certain food factor in citrus helped
greatly in the treatment of scurvy.

By the 19th and 20th century, almost all vitamins were isolated and identified.
This paved the way for the development of multivitamin and multi-mineral
concentrates. These concentrated formulations were designed primarily to answer
the growing micronutrient needs of the people.

Functions of Multivitamin

Everyone knows that vitamins and minerals are essential for the proper growth
and development of the body. Unfortunately for some people, their diet may not
contain sufficient micronutrients to support the needs of their bodies.

In such cases, they may have to take multivitamin in order to avoid a
deficiency. There are also people who have special vitamin requirement. For
example, pregnant women should consume more folate, calcium and iron to support
the fetus.

People who live in countries that receive less sunlight could also benefit a lot
from multivitamin. Lack of sun exposure may cause vitamin D deficiency and could
adversely affect the bodys calcium and phosphorous balance. By taking additional

2. Follow the recommended dosage

ALWAYS and I do mean ALWAYS follow the recommended dosage. They are there for a
reason. Not following what they recommend is only causing your body to
experience an overdose of ingredients and medicine which may damage your health.
Unless you have a doctor to back you up on the increased amount of supplements
that you should be taking, never exceed what they write on the supplements.
Do not be over ambitious and think that by taking more, the affects will be
faster. This may be the case for some products, but in doing so, you are placing
yourself at a high risk of severe liver and internal organ damage. Your body
organs also need time to process that much supplements. You do not want to end
up having a six-pack on the operating table.

3. Your workout/diet program must be in check

Supplements are a word for it supplements. They supplement towards your training
and hard work on your current diet. Without those two in check, no amount of
three thousand dollar supplements will be able to help you in the long run. The
best and most effective way to consume them is together with a balanced diet and
