Carter succeeds Reginald J. Eadie, MD, MBA, who has held the top leadership role since 2018. Eadie will go on to serve as Senior Vice President of Physician Enterprise Development for Livonia, Michigan-based Trinity Health. Read More -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- FBI Issues Cyber Security Recommendations for Medical Devices and Healthcare Payment Processors The FBI this week issued recommended actions on two separate areas of identified risk to healthcare organizations. The first alert provided steps to secure medical devices that are vulnerable to cyberattacks, threatening patient safety, healthcare operations, and data privacy and integrity. The risk focuses on unpatched medical devices, often using legacy technology that needs updating to protect against cyberattack. The FBI is recommending specific measures to actively secure medical devices, identify vulnerabilities, and increase employee awareness and reporting in order to mitigate risks. Read More -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CMS to Continue Covering Costs of COVID-19 Vaccines and Boosters Following on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendation of new bivalent COVID-19 boosters earlier this month, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced this week that COVID-19 vaccines will continue to be provided at no cost to both insured and uninsured eligible Americans as long as the federal government continues to purchase and distribute them. The CDC has recommended Pfizer’s updated booster for people 12 and older and Moderna’s updated booster for people 18 and older, to protect recipients from the most recent omicron variants. Interested individuals can find local sites offering the vaccines and updated boosters using the federal government’s vaccine locator tool.
