WELCOME TO THE NORTHERN TERRITORY LOCAL COURT

The Local Court of the Northern Territory is established by the Local Court Act
2015. The Local Court is the first level of the Northern Territory's two tier
court system and in the great majority of cases is the first point of contact
that members of the public have with the judicial system. The Court handles the
greatest proportion of cases in the Northern Territory, dealing with both
criminal and civil cases.

LOCAL COURT ARRANGEMENTS OVER CHRISTMAS PERIOD

There will be special arrangements for Local Courts in Darwin, Katherine,
Tennant Creek and Alice Springs between December 16 and January 3.

DARWIN LOCAL COURT BUILDING CLOSED AFTER MEDICAL INCIDENT

Due to a medical incident the Darwin Local Court was closed early on Friday,
September 13, 2024

FRONT COUNTER RE-DESIGN PROJECT

Users of the Darwin Local Court should be aware of temporary arrangements during
works to redesign the front counter from September 4, 2024.
