The video player in Google Drive is about to look a bit nicer.

In addition to a refreshed design, Google is making it easier to fast forward,
rewind, adjust playback speed, and turn captions on or off for videos you’re
watching in Google Drive, according to a blog post. The updates will be
available to all Google Workspace customers.

NYT: Bill Gates donated $50 million to an organization backing Kamala Harris.

The Times writes that Gates told friends he’s donated about $50 million to a
501(c)(4) “dark money” organization, Future Forward USA Action. It’s the
nonprofit arm of what the Times previously described as “The biggest super PAC
in American politics.”

Gates didn’t endorse Harris when asked, and is quoted saying:

> I support candidates who demonstrate a clear commitment to improving health
> care, reducing poverty and fighting climate change in the U.S. and around the
> world.

Netflix is getting a daily word game from TED.

“Slide rows of scrambled letters to spell words in this thought-provoking word
puzzle game from TED,” according to the App Store description for the new game,
TED Tumblewords. Seems like the game is trying to be Netflix’s Wordle.

The new game is set to launch on November 19th on Android and iOS, though you’ll
need a Netflix subscription to be able to play it.

After Amazon and Sony parted ways with the original creative team working on the
live-action adaptation, Deadline reports that Moore has joined the production as
writer, executive producer, and showrunner.

Moore is best known for producing Battlestar Galactica and for his work on Star

The Yelp page for the Pennsylvania McDonald’s has seen an increased volume of
politicized reviews following Trump’s visit on Sunday, but as reported by CNBC,
Yelp has temporarily paused reviews:

9to5Mac reports:

Let’s enhance it.

Microsoft Photos is getting a new “super resolution” feature that lets you
enlarge and enhance low-quality photos using AI on Copilot Plus PCs, and it’s
now available for Windows Insiders.

The app is also getting a new OCR function to make it easier to grab text from
photos. There will also be a new single-click navigation option so you don’t
have to double-click to open pics.

The press release announcing their partnership is so chockfull of buzz words and
tech jargon that its difficult to suss out the concrete details. Basically the
two companies will work together to “produce a standardized reference framework
for development of generative AI-enabled digital cockpits and software-defined
vehicles.” Whose cockpits? Which cars? None are listed. But the likely output
will be “intuitive voice assistants, immersive map experiences, and real-time
updates to anticipate driver needs.”

The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip comes with ultra wideband baked in, and it won’t
require smartphone makers to add extra hardware to take advantage of it, reports
Android Authority.

Not every Android phone supports UWB, which is used for precision location
features (think AirTags). Perhaps that’ll change with the 8 Elite, given
Qualcomm’s chips’ popularity with Android device makers.
