While traditional diesel engines have helped power the industrial world for over
a century, our Modular Linear Generator (MLG) is designed to address modern
challenges, and become the industrial generator of choice for the next century.

The heart of the Modular Linear Generator is the CAVIE™ module. Our CAVIE™
modules use up to 40% less fuel with diesel, thanks to our patent pending
combustion chamber architecture and highly variable piston and valvetrain
control. These same features enable CAVIE™ modules to switch fuel types
on-the-fly, and efficiently run with combination fuels. Our generators will ease
the transition to more sustainable fuel types (such as natural gas, biofuels,
synthetic fuels, hydrogen), and protect customers from fuel price fluctuation by
offering unprecedented fuel choice for generators.

CAVIE™ modules are designed for up to 25kW output from a single module and can
be stacked together in a single enclosure for higher power outputs, up to 2MW.
For customers interested in generator power beyond 2MW, a CAVIE™—L module with
single module output up to 500kW can effectively serve needs of 10MW+.

Pre-orders for MLG systems are available now. Don’t miss out on the financial
savings and fuel security of an MLG system for your power generation needs.

TECHNOLOGY

Continuously Adaptive Volume Intelligent Engine (CAVIE™)

CAVIE™ modules are the heart of the modular linear generator. Conventional
engine technology has a limited ability to adapt to changing conditions and
loading demands; therefore, efficiency in real world use suffers. CAVIE™ modules
can adjust key physical parameters of the generator (displacement, compression,
valve lift and timing, fuel injection) to maintain high combustion efficiency
across a wide range of loading. Multiple CAVIE™ modules can be combined together
for higher maximum output, and even greater load matching capability as
individual modules can deactivate completely when not needed.

How are CAVIE™ modules so efficient?

1

ELIMINATE ROTATING COMPONENT FRICTION.

In a common diesel engine, 10-15% of energy is wasted in mechanical friction.
The MLG is a linear engine, meaning combustion energy is converted into
electricity directly through linear electric generators. This engine layout
eliminates most frictional components in an engine, including crankshaft,
connecting rods, camshafts, and rocker arms.

2

Most engines have a single piston per cylinder and a combustion chamber enclosed
by a cylinder head. An opposed piston engine has two mirror image pistons
sharing a cylinder. Effectively a cylinder head is replaced by another piston,
which can extract more useful work from combustion instead of thermal loss.
Additionally, two pistons per cylinder allows for lower piston speeds and higher
combustion efficiency.

OPPOSED PISTON COMBUSTION CHAMBER.

3

4-STROKE COMBUSTION CYCLE.

While opposed piston engines offer significant efficiency gains, it becomes
difficult to include valves required for an efficient 4-stroke combustion cycle.
Intelline's patent pending piston-centric valves allow us to combine the
benefits of an opposed piston engine with a 4-stroke cycle in a simple and
compact package.

4

The MLG linear engine is not constrained by a traditional crankshaft and
connecting rods, and with our Intelline Reconfigurable Linear Electric Motors
(RLEMs) the MLG can actively vary its displacement to efficiently match power
output to the demands of the load. Furthermore, our pneumatically actuated
valvetrain offers full timing and lift control, for optimal flow in varying
conditions.

VARIABLE DISPLACEMENT AND VALVE TIMING.

5

LOWER PARASITIC LOSSES.

The higher thermal efficiency of the MLG reduces demands on supporting
components. For example, lower heat rejection allows a smaller and more
efficient coolant pump. Lower fuel consumption also reduces fuel pump demands.
Additionally, the MLG is a virtually oil-free engine, negating the need for an
oil pump (and oil changes!)

CASE STUDIES

FEATURES

LOAD MATCHING

CAVIE™ modules can adjust displacement, compression, valve timing, and more on
the fly, to maintain high combustion efficiency even at low loads.

FLEXIBLE FUEL OPTIONS

The ability to adjust displacement and compression allows multi-fuel equipped
systems to switch fuel types at any time. The CAVIE™ architecture makes it easy
to retrofit new fuel systems in the future as well.

LOW MAINTENANCE

CAVIE™ modules use a pressurized air bearing system instead of traditional oil
lubrication, allowing for longer operating time between routine service.
