leben.

Some days I feel quite frantic about the attention deficit being wrought on our
children due to the influence of digital distraction. This film reinforces the
urgency of teaching our kids how to live mindfully and being role models of
mindfulness. Thanks Shannon

Highly recommend watching. So great to see an independent Australian documentary
taking a critical look into meditation & mindfulness with evidence based
practice! Makes me think how different the world would be if we all endeavoured
to try mindfulness more frequently. Thank you for sharing.

MY YEAR OF LIVING MINDFULLY - THE BOOK

From the director of the internationally acclaimed documentary of the same
name, MY YEAR OF LIVING MINDFULLY is a book filled with compelling stories,
groundbreaking science, and unexpected insights that go to the heart of what it
means to be human in the twenty-first century.

It's filled with extended interviews, new insights, and the "how" of Shannon’s
year-long experiment.

> “My Year of Living Mindfully is actually one of the more insightful, practical
> and straight-talking personal testimonies on the subject that I’ve come
> across.”

A DOCUMENTARY FEATURING THE WORLD’S LEADING MINDFULNESS EXPERTS

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY

Overwhelmed with insomnia and an incurable autoimmune disease, Shannon Harvey
needed to make a change. But while the award-winning health journalist found
plenty of recommendations on diet, sleep and exercise, when she looked for the
equivalent of a 30-minute workout for her mental wellbeing, there was nothing.

Worried for the future mental health of her kids who were growing up amidst
epidemics of stress, anxiety, depression and addiction, Shannon enlisted a team
of scientists to put meditation to the test. Could learning to quiet our busy
minds be the simple solution the world so desperately needs?

Throughout her year of living mindfully Shannon is poked, prodded, scanned and
screened as she travels the world to interview 18 of the world’s leading
mindfulness scientists and pioneers. But after a 30,000 kilometre journey from
the bright lights of Manhattan to the dusty refugee camps of the Middle East,
what begins as a self-experiment, transforms into a life-changing experience.

My Year of Living Mindfully is filled with compelling stories, groundbreaking
science, and unexpected insights that go to the heart of what it means to be
human in the twenty-first century.

WATCH THE FILM

We are independent filmmakers who are dedicated to producing high-quality
stories and health journalism which is widely available to everyone. But our
work takes a tremendous amount of time and dedication to research, produce and
share. My Year of Living Mindfully took three years to make. Although we are
committed to making our blogs and podcasts freely available, when you buy our
films, books, and screening licences you are helping us to make these projects
possible.

A BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO STARTING A MINDFULNESS PRACTICE

One of the most frequently asked questions after people have seen my feature
documentary My Year of Living Mindfully is:

How do I get started on my own mindful experiment?

Before you continue reading this guide though, the first thing I’d like to ask
you in return is:

Do you actually want to start meditating regularly?

If your answer is no, then stop reading now and plan to spend your precious time
on something that you would like to do for your health and wellbeing. If your
answer is yes, read on.

SPARKING MEANINGFUL CONVERSATIONS

When I set out three years ago to make a new film about mindfulness and mental
health, I could never have foreseen the result. In March 2020, more than 150
screenings of My Year of Living Mindfully were being planned around the world
when COVID19 changed the world. Instead, my husband and co-director (Jules
Harvey) and I decided to partner with education, mental health, mindfulness and
academic organisations all around the world for a free, week-long, online
premiere.

The response was unforgettable and wonderful. We had emails and social media
messages from people all over the world who are both mindfulness sceptics and
mindfulness believers alike.

Thank you to those who have helped to share and forward the film on social media
and to your networks. With your help, we are sparking meaningful conversations
about practical things we can all being doing for our mental health. Please help
share the film's trailer, tell me what you think on the Facebook
page (@myyearoflivingmindfully) or comment on the trailer on my YouTube Channel.
