Active Directory & GPO

Hey All

Got a bit of a confused face on right now, I've been following Technet's guide
to enabling branch cache but when it gets too the bit about selecting policies i
can not go no further as i do not have one to select!

Anyone got any ideas? i'll try and post a picture.

Thanks

Bollo

Are you editing these from a Server 2008 Domain Controller as it looks like
you're editing them from Server 2003? Server 2008 has more features than 2003
(ADM vs ADMX) and the instructions say ADMX files - so these instructions are
for Server 2008 (possibly just even R2).

I'm able to find it on Server 2008 R2

Could you just create a blank policy?

Here is the to do list from technet,  i'm stuck at 6.

To create a GPO, enable BranchCache, and select the cache mode

    1. Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and click Group Policy
       Management Console.

    2. In the console tree, select the domain in which you will apply the GPO.

    3. Create a new GPO by selecting New from the Action menu.

    4. Choose a name for the new GPO, and then click OK

    5. Right click the GPO you created and choose Edit.

    6. Click Computer Configuration, point to Policies, Administrative
Templates: Policy definitions (ADMX files) retrieved from the local
       machine,Network, and then click BranchCache.

    7. Double-click Turn on BranchCache.

    8. Click Enabled, and then click OK.

Humm you have confirmed what we were thinking, we have a 2008 server R2 but
it is not a DC and thus can not get the GPO, so i guess we will have too turn
it into a 2008 DC server lol

   Thanks mate :)

Don't forget, when you turn it into a DC, you need to expand the AD schema -
   (/forestprep, /domainprep, /rodcprep)

BranchCache clients can be managed by using Group Policy settings or the
netsh command-line scripting utility. You can use either tool to perform the
following configuration tasks on BranchCache clients:

    * Enable BranchCache (it is disabled by default).

    * Select Distributed Cache or Hosted Cache mode.

    * Specify the size of the client computers’ cache (if using Distributed
Cache mode). By default, BranchCache uses up to 5% of the hard disk drive
      for the cache.

    * Specify the location of the Hosted Cache (if using Hosted Cache mode).
