A CITY WITH MORE THAN A THOUSAND FIETSHANGARS
Since the beginning of Fietshangar, the Municipality of Rotterdam has been a
major consumer of Fietshangar. The Municipality rents places to individuals to
park their bikes there. There are now more than 1,000 and the demand from the
community remains high. Meanwhile, the city is fully committed to creating
additional space in the city for increasing bicycle traffic. In the coming
years, hundreds more Fietshangars will be delivered. The Fietshangar turns out
to be the bicycle parking solution for Rotterdam and its cycling residents and
plays an important role in the city's mobility system.

Cycling professor Marco te Brömmelstroet, associate professor of Urban Planning
at the University of Amsterdam and head of the Urban Cycling Institute, visited
Berkeley with a delegation of graduate students who studied transportation
systems. Starting from the question of how the Netherlands became the cycling
capital of the world and how other cities can (or cannot) follow suit.

say 'look at all the bikes parked at the station, what a problem'. That's not a
problem, but a symptom of something that is hugely successful, despite the fact
