ANTHONY ALBANESE OFFERS TO DRIVE PM SCOTT MORRISON TO GOVERNMENT HOUSE IN
CANBERRA SO HE CALLS THE FEDERAL ELECTION

Posted on April 8, 2022 By admin No Comments on Anthony Albanese offers to drive
PM Scott Morrison to Government House in Canberra so he calls the Federal
Election

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese has offered to call up Prime Minister Scott
Morrison and offer him a lift to Yarralumla so he can officially call the
Federal Election.

Mr Albanese told reporters in Adelaide on Friday morning it was “rather bizarre”
Mr Morrison had continued to put off announcing the date voters would go to the
polls.

“I’ve got to say, I feel like putting in a phone call to the Prime Minister, if
he doesn’t know whether Governor-General lives and offer him a lift to The Lodge
to call this election,” Mr Albanese said.

Despite the Labor leader’s sledge, the Governor-General’s residence in Canberra
is actually Government House, while The Lodge is the Prime Minister’s official
home in the nation’s capital.

Mr Albanese then went on to accuse Mr Morrison of purposely delaying calling the
election to splash cash “in the name of the government”.

“Because this absurdity of not having the election called so that he can
continue to spend taxpayer funds on election ads in the name of the Government –
but they are really about promoting the Liberal and National parties,” he said.

“And so that he can continue to make these extraordinary appointments that the
administrative appeals Tribunal, to the Productivity Commission, to the arts
Council.

“Surely there are now no more Liberal former state MPs, federal MPs, local
counsellors or males to appoint to these bodies.

“Enough. Call the election, let the Australian people decide.”

This year’s Federal Election must be held no later than May 21 and there needs
to be at least 33 days between the instruction to the Australian Electoral
Commission (AEC) to hold an election and polling day.

The Prime Minister must call the election by April 11 for voters to head to the
polls on May 14 or by April 18 for a May 21 election date.

He is required to meet with Governor General David Hurley at Government House in
Yarralumla, Canberra to secure the date.

Mr Albanese also took aim at the Coalition’s benefits unveiled in this year’s
budget to address the high cost of living.

He said the cut to the fuel excise is one of the government’s “longer
timeframes”.

“It (the fuel excise) goes for months rather than weeks,” he said.

“Their one off payments end when the people pass their ballot paper. Their
payments for aged care workers end when people cast their ballot papers.

“There is a theme here you might of noticed, even though we are not in the
election campaign which is rather bizarre in itself.”

The Prime Minister is in Geelong, Victoria on Friday.
