25 BEST SINGLE PLAYER FPS ON PC. WHICH SOLO FPS TO PLAY IN 2023?

On Jan 30, 2023 4:49 pm, by Arlo

Here’re the best solo FPS games – the genre that is always in high demand,
forever in our hearts.

In the era of widespread Internet access, it is becoming increasingly difficult
to find the best single player shooters on PC that attracts players not only
with crisp graphics and interesting mechanics but also a good plot. Game
developers prefer to bet on multiplayer, which would allow them to earn on
microtransactions for several years to come. For this reason, the gaming
industry is flooded with Battle Royale games. However, you won’t find such
titles here.

WHAT ARE THE BEST SINGLE-PLAYER FPS GAMES TO PLAY ON PC?

Most of the titles are brand new, but with some small exceptions that we’ve just
had to put on our list of the best single player FPS games! We’ll recommend you
top-notch PC titles that have stolen the hearts of millions around the world
with their dynamic gameplay, engaging stories, unique setting, and iconic
characters.

BATTLEFIELD: BAD COMPANY 2

The story campaign in Battlefield is usually considered an addition to the
multiplayer mode. Therefore most of the players completely ignore it. Luckily,
the Swedish studio DICE gave us Battlefield: Bad Company 2, which turned out to
be a real gem with its fictitious conflict between the USA and Russia driving
the story. Many claims that this is one of the best single player FPS games on
PC.

The game is extremely dynamic, full of twists and turns and the shooting process
itself is pretty plausible. Strangely enough, the gameplay is not the strongest
feature of this title. The key to its success turned out to be an amazing
atmosphere. Numerous dialogues between soldiers, which feel like they were taken
from a good blockbuster movie, allow you to get closer to your virtual brothers
in arms. Unfortunately, there is no indication that we will receive a triquel,
as Electronic Arts openly admitted that they have no idea when the next part of
this game series is coming out.

BIOSHOCK: INFINITE

This time around, the setting of the Bioshock series was moved from the
underwater Rapture to the utopian sky city. The series got a second wind, which
enabled the introduction of completely new storylines. The main character of
this single-player shooter is on a mission to escort a young girl from a
mysterious sky city in Columbia to New York.

The metropolis, considered by many as a promised land, is rapidly changing
beyond recognition, and the heroes must fight for survival. The game’s
atmosphere is especially noteworthy with its deep and touching story, a
well-designed world, and the secondary characters habiting it, each with its
unique history. The combat mechanics may not be outstanding, but the skillful
use of firearms and the hero’s power guarantees a lot of fun.

CALL OF DUTY: MODERN WARFARE II (2022)

CoD has been reigning in the world of shooter games for so long, it became a
common noun describing the genre. Among all the entries in the series, the
Modern Warfare trilogy is especially beloved. It’s hard not to remember such
classic missions as All Ghillied Up from MW1 (“Chernobyl”) or No Russians from
MW2.

Is the rebooted Modern Warfare II equally good? Hell yes! The story takes place
soon after the events of the first game. We take control of the Operators of
Task Force 141 with many iconic characters like John “Soap” McTavish or Simon
“Ghost” Ridley. The campaign will lead us through such places as Texas, Mexico,
and Amsterdam, which looks like the most beautiful location in the whole
franchise.

CALL OF DUTY: WWII

Those who are feeling nostalgic for an old-school FPS will certainly be happy to
hear about Call of Duty: WWII. The game features the holy grail of classic
shooters, the aid kits replenishing the health bar. It’s not enough to hide
behind an obstacle for 5 seconds to get your HP full again and come back at your
the enemies with no stress. Oh no, now you have to think twice about every
decision.

The Call of Duty: WWII campaign begins with the Allies landing in Normandy and
slowly leads players through the territories of France, Belgium, and the Third
Reich. In addition to the fantastic shooting and gameplay mechanics, the game
also has some very well-written characters. The mutual relations between the
soldiers were presented in such a way that you will feel like a Band of Brothers
member after a few missions.

DOOM ETERNAL

The FPS games of the DOOM series have never been known for their unique stories.
They are to ensure the players are having as much fun as possible. DOOM Eternal
is the best example of that. You take on the role of Doom Slayer, trying to tame
the infernal broods that reach Earth and other planets of the Solar System.

There’s no place for boredom with such gameplay, as the action takes place at a
staggering pace, and opponents come out of all corners in bulk. Various types of
firearms and melee weapons are used to exterminate enemies, including chainsaws
and flamethrowers. Each kill grants the necessary resources to survive.

FAR CRY 5

Far Cry 5 is one of the most controversial first person shooters of recent
years. There are many references to religion as well as the political situation
in the world of 2018. Beautiful, almost idyllic, Hope County is overrun by
fanatics who intend to prepare Montana for the approaching end of the world.

You will quickly learn that these people are ready to achieve their goals by
hook or by crook. The story is really good, although it is somewhat blurred by
dozens of side quests. Such is the charm of Ubisoft sandboxes. Fortunately, the
satisfaction derived from shooting makes it easy to forget about shortcomings.

HALF-LIFE: ALYX

Valve has accustomed us to the fact that their titles stand out significantly
from the others. Games from the Half-Life series are considered the best solo
FPS in history, Portal ingeniously plays with physics and Artifact … ehm, nobody
said that you could only stand out in a good way Half-Life: Alyx appeared
suddenly when even the most loyal fans of the series doubted that they’d live to
see the new installment.

The creators of Steam surprised everyone. However, instead of the highly
anticipated Half-Life 3, they prepared for us a VR game instead. A hell of a
good one, to say the least! Although Half-Life: Alyx is not particularly unique,
it skilfully combines the best of the FPS genre and virtual reality. No wonder
Alyx has been recognized as the most interesting first-person shooter on PC of
the current generation.

METRO EXODUS

“God, what a beautiful world we have destroyed …” – Dmitry Glukhovsky’s words
from the Metro 2033 novel strike with double might when the characters of Metro
Exodus leave Moscow underground for the first time. The latest installment is
something completely different from what everyone was used to. Tight and dark
corridors are replaced with vast locations, so Artem and his companions can
finally breathe fresh air.

Alas, the outside world turns out to be even more dangerous than the tunnels
because it’s inhabited not only by mutated creatures but also by
not-always-friendly people. Despite all that, killing is the last resort and
many missions can be completed peacefully. Metro Exodus is not another typical
single player first person shooter title that focuses solely on the
extermination of enemies. Instead, the main emphasis is put on the story and
suspenseful narrative.

TITANFALL 2

Titanfall 2 appeared at the worst possible moment. The game debuted a week after
the release of Battlefield 1 and a week before Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.
Unfortunately, the game did not stand a chance with such high-profile
competitors. This futuristic shooter was treated as an unnecessary addition to
the pile but turned out to be one of the best single player FPS on PC.

It quickly won the hearts of reviewers with a great multiplayer mode and, above
all, with a beautiful, varied, and, sadly, a little short solo campaign. In the
game, you can find infantry combats, huge mecha duels, great arcade sequences,
and … time manipulation. The plot which focuses on human-machine relations adds
even more charm to the whole package.

WOLFENSTEIN: THE NEW ORDER

What would have happened if the Third Reich had gained access to technologies
far ahead of its era and won World War II? Wolfenstein: The New Order offers
players an alternative view of history. The plot kicks off in 1960 in a
psychiatric hospital somewhere in Poland. B.J. Blazkowicz wakes up from more
than a dozen years of sleep and once again faces the Nazis.

The single-player FPS on Steam skillfully combines exposition of the war’s
tragic consequences with humorous elements. There is even space for a little
love story. The game mechanics are also at a high level with satisfying shooting
and interesting level design.

HALO INFINITE (INCLUDED WITH PC GAME PASS)

We’re talking about the campaign mode, even though the multiplayer IS excellent
in the newest entry to this classic FPS series. Thankfully, Halo
Infinite doesn’t disappoint.

Embark on a journey with Master Chief on his mission to stop The Banished and
discover the phenomenal campaign mode. Installation 07 has plenty of secrets to
discover, and you won’t be bored exploring any time soon. As for the gameplay,
it’s a series that can be trusted to deliver satisfying combat, and it couldn’t
be any different this time around

-13% with GGDEALS-SALE13Historical low

You can experience Halo Infinite via Game Pass, so it’s practically free. If you
aren’t subscribed to Game Pass yet, you’re in luck, as there are some great
deals for new users:

CALL OF JUAREZ: GUNSLINGER

Do you think that Evil West looks kind of cool, but vampires and werewolves seem
too freaky for your liking? Plus Flying Wild Hog’s newest title can’t be
considered the best single player FPS for a simple reason… it’s a TPS. Call of
Juarez: Gunslinger, on the other hand, doesn’t have that “problem”.

Yes, we know that it’s a little bit old, but does that make the adventures of
the infamous Silas Graves any less enjoyable? Of course not! Cell-shaded
graphics still look pretty good, and fast-paced gameplay is as fun as 9 years
ago. The narration hasn’t aged either, as the whole story is basically a tale
being told by the main character in a saloon, which leads to a few pretty funny
situations. And here’s the best thing: Gunslinger is dirt cheap.

RESIDENT EVIL VILLAGE

Who would have thought of putting the Resident Evil franchise on the list of
best FPS single player games a few years ago? Certainly not us. But here we are
now, as Village not only belongs to that genre but is also considered one of the
best installments in the whole series.

Set after the events of REVII, the story begins with Ethan and Mia Winters
living peacefully and being (supposedly) free from their past. Soon tragedy
befalls them once again, and Ethan has to risk his life and limb (quite…
literally sometimes) to save his family. Experience a new level of terror from
the first-person perspective, trying to survive battles that are more exciting
than ever before.

FORGIVE ME FATHER

Do we have any fans of boomer shooters out there? We have something nice for you
as well. Forgive Me Father is a mix of horror and FPS set in a world inspired by
H.P. Lovecraft novels. It offers two different playable characters (a priest and
a journalist), with the differences between them being more than just cosmetics.
What’s not to love about a game that’s basically Doom combined with The Shadow
over Innsmouth?

Are you still hungry for more? Then please check our list of the 10 best boomer
shooters to play in 2022 if you like retro FPS and Doom.

BULLETSTORM: FULL CLIP EDITION

Bulletstorm was a solo FPS ahead of its time. The gameplay wasn’t only about
killing your enemies because you had to do it with style! The unique “Skillshot”
system rewarded players for being equally creative and deadly in combat.

Follow the story of Grayson Hunt, the exiled member of Dead Echo, the elite
assassin organization. After crash landing on an abandoned resort planet called
Stygia, he now has to survive and seek revenge for the past betrayal. Don’t
worry if that sounds too serious for you, as the game is brimming with dirty
humor and funny dialogues. It’s almost like a modern Duke Nukem. Well, you can
even play as the Duke himself!

NEON WHITE

It might not be a shooter per se, but a mix of FPS, card game, and platformer.
You play as White, a sinner plucked from Hell to kill demons running rampant in
Heaven.

Neon White offers players a lot of engaging action where simply mashing the LPM
button isn’t enough. You’ll have to collect correct cards, use them in order,
and kill everything that moves before reaching the finishing line. It’s all so
fulfilling that you’ll feel like a true speedrunner at the end of the level! If
you don’t fancy that kind of gameplay, you might still stay for the surprisingly
good story presented in a visual novel style.

SERIOUS SAM 4

A cult classic comes back with some new tweaks! Serious Sam 4 is a prequel to
the whole series, showing the beginning of the alien invasion on Earth.

You play as the leader of Earth Defence Force, titular Sam, trying to get rid of
Mental’s countless underlings. The gameplay itself is similar to the previous
entries but now with up to 10 000 enemies on the screen… at once! And it’s not
only one of the best single player FPS games on Steam as you can play it either
solo or in co-op mode. After finishing the base game, you can jump right into
the stand-alone DLC, Siberian Mayhem.

TINY TINA’S WONDERLANDS

There can’t be a list of best single player shooters without at least mentioning
the Borderlands franchise or its spin-offs. Embark on an epic journey created by
the twisted mind of the beloved character from Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina (or
simply Gearbox Software developers ).

In Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands you can create your own multi-class character and
fight hordes of enemies out of this world. Skeletons, sharks, and human-like
mushrooms – pick your poison. Discover majestic cities, gloomy forests, and dark
fortresses while exploring this vast world and collecting new loot. It might not
be post-apocalyptic like the previous games, but a slight change of scenery
makes it even more fun!

CRYSIS REMASTERED TRILOGY (INCLUDED WITH PC GAME PASS)

Are you looking for some single player FPS games that are not only enjoyable but
also visually stunning? Then you don’t have to look further as Crysis Remastered
Trilogy can offer you both.

Some people believe that the first game is the best, providing players with the
most freedom. The second and third installments are more appealing to people
preferring more linear titles with closed structures. So why not check them all
out to see which one you personally like most?

In case you would like to heat up your PC even more after playing Crysis, please
take a look at our top of 15 best high end PC games with stunning visuals to
play in 2022.

PRODEUS (INCLUDED WITH PC GAME PASS)

Another boomer shooter is on our list. Developers describe Prodeus as an FPS of
old, re-imagined by the use of modern rendering techniques. The plost isn’t of
the greatest importance here, and it serves more as an excuse to raise mayhem
and exterminate hordes of enemies.

The game offers two different display options. It can simulate the old-school,
low-resolution look using special shaders or be completely modern. Due to that
it can be appealing to both retro and modern shooter fans.

SNIPER GHOST WARRIOR CONTRACTS 2

Sniper Ghost Warriors Contracts 2 is an FPS set in the Middle East. You play as
Raven, a contract sniper assassin, taking out a series of targets across the
whole single-player campaign.

Being a marksman, you don’t have to fight enemies in close combat. As the title
suggests, you’re a “ghost warrior” eliminating people from afar, up to 1000
meters. Would you be able to topple the insidious criminal syndicate and bring
back justice?

METAL: HELLSINGER (INCLUDED WITH PC GAME PASS)

What’s better than slaughtering hell pawns? Doing that with heavy metal in the
background, of course!

In Metal: Hellsinger you take control of The Unknown, a demon whose task is to
kill The Red Judge and make all the monsters… well, go to hell? The most
innovative feature here is having to fire and slash enemies to the rhythm of the
soundtrack. The more in sync you are, the more damage you deal. It’s not your
typical single-player FPS, but you’ll soon forget about it, headbanging to the
music.

DEATHLOOP (INCLUDED WITH PC GAME PASS)

A mix of rogue-lite games and Dishonored with appealing art déco style? It might
sound weird at first but, trust us, you’re not gonna regret giving Deathloop a
chance.

Take control of Colt, the assassin trapped on the island of Blackreef. Your only
chance to escape the time loop is to kill eight key targets before the day
resets. Learn from each cycle, discover new paths, and gather items and new
abilities. Oh, and one more thing: you’re not the only assassin on Blackreef.
Mysterious Julianna watches your every step.

SUPERHOT

Another title on our list of fps single player games that is quite
extraordinary. There aren’t any regenerating health bars, ammo drops, or
conveniently placed weapons. It’s only you, outnumbered by countless enemies.

Superhot is more of a puzzle game rather than a regular shooter. Time only moves
when you move, so you have to think all your actions carefully. One bullet means
instant death. With its stylish graphics and innovative gameplay, Superhot is
without a doubt a breath of fresh air in the genre.

GHOSTWIRE: TOKYO

Tokyo’s population has suddenly vanished. You wake up in the middle of Shibuya,
saved from the edge of death by the mysterious ghost KK. Now, with the newly
acquired powers, you have to find the culprit behind all that (who’s hiding
behing Hanya’s mask) and get rid of the beings called Visitors.

Ghostwire: Tokyo’s atmosphere is simply stunning. Japan’s capital city is lit by
neons and teeming with  Japanese Yokai, which makes you want to just roam
through it endlessly.en What’s even better, the game is among one of the best
titles with ray tracing to play on PC.

The primary role of first-person shooter games is to entertain. Many people
think there is nothing more fun than playing among friends on the web. But
sometimes, it is worth putting multiplayer away for a moment and instead
appreciating the artistry of people responsible for the story of a single
player. In our opinion, the best first person shooters with a single player
campaign will surely guarantee you many hours of fun. If only those deals on
Call of Duty were slightly better ;( But thanks to GG.deals, you’re able to find
not only the lowest price for your most wanted games but also create the price
alerts, meaning we’ll let you know as soon as a better deal appears on the
market.

Did you find your favorites in this list, or have we missed the best FPS to play
in 2022? Aim for the comment section, and let us know what do you think!
