OUR MISSION

Big Family of Michigan supports and serves the needs of foster children,
institutionalized children and grandchildren raised by their grandparents.

BIG FAMILY OF MICHIGAN


OUR VISION

Our vision has allowed us to expand our outreach to 45 of the 83 counties in
Michigan providing services and support to foster children and their foster
family and grandchildren being raised by their grandparents.  In Michigan, there
are more grandparents raising grandchildren than there are foster children.  The
services for this sector are deficient, as often these families do not qualify
for any assistance.  Our vision is to ensure that all foster children and
children raised by their grandparents are not overlooked or forgotten

Big Family of Michigan is a Michigan based, grassroots 501 (c) 3 non-profit
organization that supports and serves the needs of foster children, abused
children, institutionalized children and grandchildren being raised by
grandparents from infancy through the age of 23 and there is never a cost to
children or their caregiver(s).

HOW IT STARTED


JEANNE'S STORY

The passion behind Big Family of Michigan started nearly 60 years ago in an
abusive home, where at a very young age, Jeanne Fowler and her brother Peter
experienced a horrific childhood. Beaten and tortured daily, the two clung to
each other as their sole source of love and reason for living. Unfortunately,
that bond was broken when Peter, age three, was beaten to death at the hands of
their mother.

Peter’s short-lived life is what motivated Jeanne Fowler to stop child abuse and
improve the lives of children in foster care so that they never have to
experience a childhood like hers.
