DISTRESS AND ANXIETY. NATURE ITSELF PROVIDES A GATEWAY FOR RECONNECTING WITH OUR
INNATE AND FUNDAMENTAL WHOLENESS—A REALITY CONFIRMED BY THE LATEST BEHAVIORAL
SCIENCE.


 


KIDS NEED MORE TIME OUTSIDE—THEIR COMFORT ZONE.


NATURE DEFICIT DISORDER IS RECOGNIZED AS A REAL CONSEQUENCE, OR SIDE EFFECT, OF
TOO MUCH TIME SPENT INDOORS, MUCH OF IT IN FRONT OF SCREENS. WHETHER IT’S SUMMER
CAMP ADVENTURES AFTER AN INTENSE SCHOOL YEAR, A WEEKLY HIKE WITH A THERAPEUTIC
GUIDE OR A WEEKEND IMMERSION IN THE MOUNTAINS, THE PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH
BENEFITS OF TIME SPENT IN NATURE ARE WELL DOCUMENTED.

SELF-REGULATION AND LEARNING. IT ALSO BUILDS RELATIONAL AWARENESS AND

Holistic wellness and recovery services for individuals and groups.

To support youth in finding a fluid balance between the physical, mental,
emotional and spiritual (or meaning-making) facets of their lives. Offered at
our 4Roots Wellness Center, on several local school campuses, at alternative
education sites, for visiting schools or faculty, and as an adjunct to juvenile

Clinically supervised, 1-on-1, nature-based therapeutic mentoring.

For youth with serious emotional disturbance related to mental or behavioral
health and/or substance abuse issues. With a focus on awareness and deepening
self-acceptance, youth develop self-efficacy, resilience, and grit for effecting
major transformation and ongoing growth in their lives. Read More


THE TRANSFORMATIVE POWER OF EMBODIED PEAK EXPERIENCE


EMBODIED PEAK EXPERIENCE IS A HEIGHTENED CONNECTION TO OUR BODY BROUGHT ON BY
PHYSICAL EXERTION, RISK APPROPRIATE TO THE INDIVIDUAL, AND ATTENTION TO OUR
SENSATIONS. IT IS AT THE HEART OF WHAT WE OFFER AT GATEWAY. ONGOING RESEARCH
INDICATES THAT OUR STUDENTS HAVE GREATER LEVELS OF CONFIDENCE, A STRENGTHENED
SENSE OF SELF, AND GREATER PHYSICAL COORDINATION AND ENERGY. THEY ALSO
EXPERIENCE AN INCREASED ABILITY TO REGULATE THEIR EMOTIONS, IMPROVEMENT IN THEIR
FAMILY RELATIONSHIPS, AND MORE OVERALL RESILIENCY.

Special Use Permit from Tahoe National Forest.
