Being an architect and holding active directorship in four companies with worth
over 800 crores, I’m still able to be a poet, a mentor, a fiction writer and a
blogger.

Having authored many an articles related to my profession in magazines &
journals from very early years of my career,-

I have also authored two books, The lost intimacy-a dazzling and provocative
take on abusive marriage and the other much recent –The secret of the Dream
Woman– a small city woman’s courageous take on life.

All this because, I figured out a handful of unconventional tactics that
actually moved the needle. I will explain how-

Once a friend very casually mentioned that her husband’s interest in sex
dwindled over the years so she started leading a parallel life instead of ending
the marriage, but, I could not take it so casually and over the next couple of
days, weeks and months it became the focal point for me to research. Everywhere
around me there was no dearth of men who were a good father to their children,
responsible family men yet struggled in demonstrating affection to their wives.
It got me thinking about the societal norms, the great taboos and family
pressures married women go through and that feeling stuck for couple of years
till I  began writing it all down.

Slowly it took form of a story and eventually when it started shaping up like a
good readable book, I started emailing it around for feedback to various
publication houses in the required submission format.Though I would receive an
email of receiving the submission, the feedback didn’t arrive for weeks and
that’s when I realized waiting is a part of author’s life.

However, it became quite nerve-wracking when my submitted book over which I had
put tremendous effort wasn’t making any headway. My patience started giving away
…once the 24-week maximum average wait time got over. In the coming week I
figured out that it should now be acceptable to reach out to the right point of
contact personally.

So I started attending book events, where I would meet marketing team of
publication houses. It is from one of them that I heard that though their
editorial team is interested but because my chosen subject area was
controversial, it was going through a review team.-meaning I shouldn’t expect a
speedy turnover time.

Few weeks later by chance, I discovered Kindle Amazon as an easy to use
self-publishing platform and both in a state of nervousness and excitement I
published my work.

Now fast forward just one year and check the reviews below that show the
credibility my book still garners:

Yes– that’s right. You got it- Books should be appreciated much after their
launch years too.

Not many people would say that, because there are publication houses which want
to make fast money out of your hard work and they advise to sign a contract with
them on how to become an established author in 30-60 days. They do it but in
return they pocket a lot of money from you upfront, because they are able to
play on your emotions and that inert yearning to become an author. BEWARE OF
THEM!

Believe me when I say that because becoming an author seems so much easy in
their hands. What’s difficult is to direct viewership to your books much after
their release date.

And what’s more difficult than that? It’s getting to achieve a stable readership
in countries where one doesn’t belong-

Who wouldn’t want more such opportunities to take them on the way to be a super
successful author? This comes by choosing publication platform which give you
wider viewership, Therefore check where all your book is going to be
distributed, when you select your publication house.

Also, the money laundering publication houses will not prepare you for the bumpy
road ahead, they will cast a rosy picture. Check a review recieved-

Consider whether you would want to lose readership for a particular issue, such
as typos. Seize such criticisms as a learning opportunity and decide to clear
not only this but all future roadblocks.

Like I did, plunging head-on to find ways to keep up in the growing competitive
world of books around.  I built a reliable and experienced team to take care of
editing, cover page designing, formatting, proofreading for my next books and
dived deep into the pool of opportunities finding unconventional ways to market,
which was not to pay for running advertisement on Facebook or social media, yet
rapidly increasing my readership by my unique ways.

As you must have realized from the reviews much above, I know my stuff.

Sure, I’m not competing with likes of JK Rowling or Stephen King, but I do
compete in the most competitive niche there is…in the readers market.  Just
think about it… I am competing with people like me.

Yet still, I’m winning and outperforming them all…
