ABOUT DAGMAR FERTL



Dagmar’s graduate research focused on the association of bottlenose dolphins
with the Dagmar Fertl is a marine mammal biologist with more than 25 years of
experience with marine mammals and issues affecting them (e.g., fishery
interactions; military training exercises; effects of oil/gas
exploration/development activities, including noise and explosive impacts). Her
research interests lie in the realm of natural history and behavioral ecology of
marine protected species and the impacts of human activities on these animals.
Dagmar has more than 20 years of experience in National Environmental Policy Act
(NEPA) documentation. She also has been involved in many outreach efforts to
educate the public about marine mammals.



Dagmar’s graduate research focused on the association of bottlenose dolphins
with the shrimp fishery in Galveston Bay, Texas (Gulf of Mexico). She has been
involved in shipboard and aerial surveys for cetaceans along the Gulf of Mexico
and Atlantic coastlines, as well as photo-identification surveys and live
captures of dolphins. Her post-graduate employment has focused on an array of
marine protected species assessments for the western North Atlantic Ocean,
Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico, eastern and western North Pacific Ocean (including
the U.S. West Coast, Alaska, Hawaii, Japan/Okinawa, and Guam/CNMI), and
Mediterranean. Dagmar established Ziphius EcoServices in 2007 as a source for
marine protected species expertise, especially as it relates to environmental
compliance needs.
