Research line Motoneuron disease ALS is a devastating disease that currently has no cure. ALS research in the field of epidemiology is still scarce today and, in part, this has contributed to the fact that it is one of my main lines of research in the field of clinical epidemiology. Research line COVID-19 The COVID-19 epidemic was declared by the WHO a public health emergency of international concern on January 30, 2020. Since then, I have worked with other researchers to understand the magnitude and characteristics of it and its socioeconomic and environmental evolution, as well as the prevalence of its infection. DR. MARÍA A. BARCELÓ I am an Associate Professor in the area of Quantitative Methods for Economics and Business in the Department of Economics at the University of Girona and I am accredited by the Spanish ‘Agencia Nacional de Evaluación de la Calidad y Acreditación (ANECA)’ as a Full Professor from March 2018. I have a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Girona and a degree in Mathematics from the ‘Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona’. I belong to several research groups in Statistics, Econometrics and Health. My main lines of research are both methodological and applied, with the purpose, not only of generating knowledge, but also of applying it to fight against global health problems such as social and environmental inequalities, chronic diseases, climate change and other emerging diseases like the current pandemic.
