Eco-friendly couple spend £8 a month on water bills after ditching loo roll and
re-using shower water
<p>An eco-friendly couple spend just £8 a month on water bills, have ditched loo
roll and re-use their shower water.</p><p>Anna Masiello, influencer, 28, and her
husband, Diogo, 29, a film maker, aim to lead a zero-waste lifestyle by swapping
old clothes with friends, using shampoo and soap bars and opting for a plant
based diet.</p><p>Anna wears period pants and menstrual cups instead of using
disposable period products.</p><p>The pair opted to stop using toilet paper in
May 2022 - instead opting for a portable bidet which is attached to a plastic
bottle and which they use in their own home and take with them on camping
trips.</p><p>Anna and Diogo also save their shower water in a jar which they
clean and reuse afterwards to drink, cook and water plants with. The pair claim
they spend us £8.43 a month on water.</p><p>They've saved more than 13,000
litres of water in a year by not using loo roll as the and more than 600 litres
of water by saving and re-using their shower water.</p><p>The pair still flush
as normal, but save water as the production of toilet paper is a
water</p><p>Anna Masiello, a eco-nfluencer, from Triesete, Friuli Venezia
Giulia, Italy, said: "It wasn't hard to ditch loo roll - you'd be surprised how
easy it is to go without it.</p><p>"So many people were confused by the concept
of the portable bidet.</p><p>“When I shared it on social media, someone even
commented they would rather die than use one.</p><p>“There's a bottle that you
fill up with water - you attach a small shower-style head to and release water
to wash yourself with.</p><p>“You simply wipe your privates with a towel after
you are done.</p><p>” It's perfectly clean and hygienic."</p><p>The
sustainability advocate explained the average person gets through 100 rolls of
toilet paper per year, which use 14k litres of water when it's
manufactured.</p><p>To re-use shower water they place a four-litre jar in the
shower until it’s hot enough to get into - saving the excess water which they
reuse to drink, cook and water plants with.</p><p>So the water is safe to
consume, they put a charcoal water filter into the jar to clean the
contents.</p><p>“It’s so simple and we save 600 litres a water by doing so,”
explained Anna.</p><p>“When I started my zero-waste journey I felt the weight of
the world of my shoulders as I was trying to do everything
perfectly.</p><p>“I’ve soon come to realise you can’t do everything perfectly
and it’s a completely personal journey you have to take.</p><p>"We just do what
we can and what works for us."</p><p>“I recommend people start with what is
important to them, whether that’s food fashion and waste and then go from
there.”</p><p>Anna started her own journey by looking at how much waste she was
producing and trying to reduce it.</p><p>The couple only produce one black bin
of waste every six months and save the synthetic fibres from their washing
machine which they hope one day to use to stuff a pillow.</p><p>“I haven’t
bought any clothes from fast fashion stores for five years," Anna said.</p><p>“I
absolutely love thrifting and going to swap events. I try to appreciate
everything I have."</p><p>Anna has her own sustainable fashion brand R-Coat
which creates clothing items from old umbrellas.</p><p>Anna’s top tips to lead a
more sustainable life</p><p>- Start small - don’t try and do everything at once.
Pick something like food, fashion, waste or transportation and go from
there.</p><p>- You don’t have to be perfect - I eat a plant-free diet which
being an Italian was so hard. Diogo and I don’t buy in animal-based products,
but I don’t beat myself up if I eat a plant-based product while I am
out.</p><p>- Swap your plastic toothbrush for a bamboo one, use toothpaste tabs
and shampoo bars.</p><p>- Make your Mondays meatless. Cutting meat from your
diet on a Monday is a fun way to refresh your menu and cut your carbon
footprint.</p><p>- Buy a Guppyfriend - a washing bag that collects all the
synthetic fibres from your washing, stopping them from going into the ocean.</p>

Meet the self-proclaimed 'king of sandwiches' who tastes utterly bizarre
combinations - like Pot Noodle and Doritos
<p>Meet the self-proclaimed 'king of sandwiches' who tastes utterly bizarre
combinations - like Pot Noodle and Doritos - so you never have
to.<br></p><p>Christopher Gribben, 28, has always loved making sandwiches - his
favourite meal - and has never been afraid to experiment with unusual
flavours.</p><p>He uploaded a simple video of himself making a "run-of-the-mill
chip butty" last year and it "went mad".</p><p>Overwhelmed at the attention, his
girlfriend Georgia, 24, encouraged him to keep uploading videos and his fan base
grew.</p><p>Christopher experiments with different flavours in the kitchen and
some of his 'tastiest' unlikely combinations include a Bombay Badboy Pot Noodle
and Doritos.</p><p>Another favourite is spaghetti Bolognese and meatballs, and
salt and vinegar Pringles with mayonnaise and sriracha sauce.</p><p>The sandwich
connoisseur’s favourite is the double decker fish finger, mushy peas and tomato
ketchup sarnie - layered between three slices of fresh white bread.
</p><p>Another fav is chicken Kiev, chips, beans and cheese.</p><p>Christopher
says he uses basic food science to create his sandwiches and never spends any
time beforehand thinking up the combinations.</p><p>The sandwich aficionado from
Manchester has 21.3k social media followers.</p><p>The creative director has
even attracted the attention of celebrities including Oli Sykes from band, Bring
Me The Horizon.</p><p>He says: "One sandwich a day keeps the doctor
away."</p><p>He added: "I was obsessed with food as a young child and spent
hours watching Action Bronson's F**k That's Delicious.</p><p>"I have never made
a bad sandwich - all it takes is a basic knowledge of food to put together a
banging creation.</p><p>"Growing up I ate very standard sarnies such as ham and
cheese, jam and tuna and sweetcorn.</p><p>“One day I uploaded myself making a
run-of-the-mill chip butty and it just went mad.</p><p>"Sandwiches are a staple
in everyone's lives. I think that's why everyone loves my videos so
much.</p><p>“Warburtons even got in touch as they were so impressed.</p><p>"They
sent me loads of bread and said welcome to the family </p><p>"One day I’d like
to create a sandwich empire.</p><p>“I’ve always loved food, but I definitely
wouldn’t call myself a chef, I just love cooking.</p><p>“My potato smiley face
sandwich with baked beans was so popular, even Oli Sykes from Bring me the
Horizon commented 'I'm making this with pickled onion space raiders and hash
browns'."</p><p>Christopher started documenting the sandwiches he makes on
TikTok in March 2021.</p><p>He said: "One of my most controversial concoctions
was a chicken Kiev, chips beans and cheese combination. </p><p>"I have a unique
twist on the classic crisp sandwich and swap out classic flavours for Thai sweet
chilli crisps, sriracha sauce and cheese to give it a kick. </p><p>"My ultimate
hangover cure one is three slices of white toast slathered with mayonnaise and
stacked to the brim with turkey dinosaurs, hash browns, beans, cheese and
ketchup and I add a touch of class to beige British staples with my blowtorch to
toast them slightly." </p><p>The most controversial tip from the bread-lover is
to avoid marmite.</p><p>Christopher spent his childhood fascinated with YouTube
food and travel accounts and hopes one day he will be able to take his
sandwiches worldwide in a food truck. <br></p>

Dynamic new destination Dubai Future District is a place that mixes business
with pleasure
A new business hub is forming in the heart of Dubai — but trade isn’t the only
reason to visit Dubai Future District. It’s an epicentre of fine dining, with
world-class restaurants, five-star rooftop pools and cultural landmarks,
including the unmissable new Museum of the Future.

Dubai is always evolving. Bold and ambitious, it’s an emirate focused on the
future and its newest neighbourhood is named accordingly. Dubai Future District
incorporates Dubai International Finance Centre (DIFC), Dubai World Trade Centre
and Emirates Towers District. The grouping defines Dubai’s incentivised business
centres – but this dynamic new destination is one that knows how to mix business
with pleasure.

Fun and Fine Dining in Dubai

With the opening of Gate Avenue mall, retail options are rising in Dubai Future
District. The mall contains local designer stores, a kids’ play area, co-working
spaces and South Market, a food hall with fashionable outlets, including Cereal
Killer Café, which serves breakfast for lunch and dinner.

For business dining that ascends the ordinary, Dubai Future District boasts a
concentration of exceptional restaurants. There are world-famous outlets with
reservation waiting lists that need little introduction, including Zuma Dubai ,
LPM Dubai and Amazonico Dubai .

Then there are homegrown concepts that form an essential foodie to-do list when
in the emirate. Mediterranean Boca is applauded for its efforts in sourcing
produce from local fishermen and farmers. The tapas is seasoned with praise.

An oasis in this modern concrete business quarter, Gaia is a pretty Greek
taverna that attracts royal patrons. The menu, crafted by charismatic Chef Izu
Ani, is full of personality, transporting guests to holiday idylls with dishes
such as mouth-watering watermelon and feta salad, scattered with almonds and
wisps of fragrant basil and mint. The fish of the day is simply grilled in
charcoal ovens and then drizzled with lemon oil.

Trèsind – a portmanteau of the French ‘very’ and ‘Indian’ – offers three
experiences in the neighbourhood. Carnival by Trèsind puts the fun into fine
dining, with blown soap bubbles part of the welcome ceremony and street food
carts tucked in corners. Trèsind is a regal blue dining room serving classic
Indian cuisine and Trèsind Studio is an exclusive dining room where Head Chef
Himanshu Saini serves impeccable Michelin-standard tasting menus that some would
argue are the finest in the city.

Rich in Art and Culture

DIFC’s Gate Village is home to renowned auction houses, including Dubai’s own
Christie’s , and boutique galleries, such as Opera , specialising in affordable
contemporary art with its ever-changing displays an ongoing attraction for avid
window shoppers.

More temporary displays will soon appear in Summer Garden, the lofty,
tree-filled atrium of new sculpted office tower, ICD Brookfield Place .

Containing seven floors of column-free exhibition and event space dedicated to
future technologies and possibilities, the newest landmark to shape the skyline
is the Museum of the Future . The first – opened in 1979 – was Dubai World Trade
Centre’s Sheikh Rashid Tower. You’ll find it not only in Dubai Future District
but also on AED100 notes. Put it all into perspective from Dubai Frame . Just 10
minutes away, it offers views of both New and Old Dubai.

Business Travel for Pleasure

Four Seasons DIFC is one of the area’s five-star hotels taking business travel
to new heights. Sleep well and wake up with the peacocks, often seen strolling
around the neighbourhood at dawn. Then start the new day with a swim. In Dubai,
you’re never too far away from a glamourous rooftop pool and the one at the Four
Seasons is an Instagram star thanks to its unusual glass sides.
