WHAT IS IT?

These courses are designed to support school staff and anyone looking after a
child living with Type 1 diabetes to better understand their care needs. 

This is awareness training and is not designed to replace individualised care
given by a child's or young person's hospital team. 

DigiBete have collaboratively developed this platform and it is brought to you
by JDRF UK, Diabetes UK, The National CYP Diabetes Network and the Leeds
Children's hospital.


WHO IS THIS PLATFORM FOR?

This platform is for anyone who looks after a child or young person in the UK
with Type 1 diabetes. This platform will support you to gain a better
understanding of managing Type 1 diabetes in school.






“Because I’d say diabetes, you are normal but you’re not, it is important to me
to fit in, with everybody, but like I am my own person and they have to accept
who I am, and if they’re not they’re not the right people.”

“They said, ‘Get off your phone,’ and I was like, ‘Okay, just two minutes, let
me just test my bloods,’ and then he went off, the teacher, and then I get
detention for being on my phone, it just doesn’t make sense, it was infuriating”

“We were doing something in PE and I felt really unwell, my bloods had gone low
and I asked if I could go to the school nurse, I needed to check my bloods and
to sort that out and he said that I couldn’t until the lesson was done, which
was another 15 minutes away”

   staff with essential knowledge about Type 1 diabetes.
