Apple faced backlash for mimicking LG's 2008 ad with the controversial iPad Pro
'Crush' ad, drawing criticism from various users and Hollywood actors. Despite
apologizing, the ad remains on YouTube.
Apple introduced the new M4-powered iPad Pro model with a controversial ad at
its Let Loose event earlier this week. This ad showed a hydraulic press crushing
(destroying) multiple things including musical instruments, camera lenses, and
books which then turns them all into the new iPad Pro.
Since the ad was aired during the iPad event, the Cupertino-based tech giant has
faced major backlash and the company has even confirmed that this clip won’t be
released for TV.

The LG smartphone also offered many new features such as GPS, Wi-Fi,
accelerometer and Dolby Audio support, which led the South Korean company to
create an ad which also showed a hydraulic press destroying things and turning
them into its new phone. Almost 16 years later, Apple used the same idea for its
iPad Pro ad.

In a post shared on Meta’s micro-blogging site Threads (spotted by 9to5Mac), a
user named Andy Cheng said: “I’m shocked that Apple, with their substantial ad
budget, seemingly copied LG’s idea from 2008. You’d think they’d come up with
something more original.”




APPLE’S STANCE ON ITS IPAD PRO ‘CRUSH’ AD



Multiple users including some Hollywood actors including Hugh Grant and Asif
Kapadia have criticised the new iPad Pro ‘Crush’ ad. Users complained that this
ad promotes the “destruction of the human experience.”
Some users also questioned “why anyone thought this ad was a good idea” and also
accused the company of minimising the work of writers, producers, filmmakers and
creators.
Later on, Apple apologised for the iPad Pro ad and said that it values
creativity. The company also acknowledged that it had “missed the mark” with the
video. However, the ad still remains available on YouTube. Watch the ad here:
