THIS WEEK'S TIP FROM US

Even if you don’t follow baseball, there’s an interesting approach that some
teams use to manage talent that we can relate to the current economic state.
It’s called sabermetrics. It’s the idea that base hits matter more than home
runs. But really, it’s the view that consistency may be a winning strategy.
Consistency may also be useful as you think about news headlines—and data
noise—and the way they do, or don’t, influence your progress toward financial
goals. Saving every month, increasing your savings, staying on top of your
bills: Those are all regular, achievable strategies that you can build on over
time. What may be less effective is latching onto the latest hot stock in hopes
of quickly cashing in.

tips from previous weeks below.

TIPS FROM PREVIOUS WEEKS

Getting a college education isn’t cheap. And paying it back can seem daunting.
During these times of increased market volatility, the federal government has
implemented measures to help, such as a student loan forbearance period and a
Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. Time is running out to take advantage
of these programs. See if you qualify and act before the October 31st deadline.

 * Public Service Loan Forgiveness program deadline approaching.
 * Student loan forebearance period expiring in 2022.

Are you headed toward the debt danger zone? Here are some tips to help turn
things around. First, compile a list of all your debts so you can make a plan of
attack. Second, consider combining multiple debts into one with more favorable
pay-off-terms. And finally, charge only what you need to.

 * Get three ways to pay off your debt.
 * Learn how to balance your debt.

We’ve heard words like inflation, supply shortages, rising rates, and market
volatility a lot in recent months. All of these can affect your ability to buy
and save. But there are steps you can take to help make sure you maintain a
healthy budget and stay on track for retirement, like analyzing your spending
and staying invested in the markets, even if it’s a bumpy ride.

 * Tips to manage your finances when inflation is high.
 * Learn what you can do about your retirement savings when the markets get
   shaky.

Have you experienced an economic downturn in your adult life? If you have, it’s
probably influencing how you think about what’s going on in the economy in 2022.
No one knows for sure whether we’ll have a recession soon, or if we do, what it
might look like. And no two recessions are exactly alike. Some, like the
two-month economic dip that happened in 2020, are momentary. Others, like the
three that occurred in the 1970s, are more durable and widespread. Whatever’s
happening in today’s economic cycle, you can take steps now to help reduce your
risk and protect what’s important to you. That may mean a focused budget review
or a few more dollars, if you can spare it, directed toward your emergency
savings fund.

Labor Day marks an official end of summer, but really, it’s a good day to
celebrate our work achievements. How do you plan to celebrate your career in
retirement? Start planning now by reviewing your retirement budget. Think about
how your expenses may change in retirement and make a list of any debts you’d
like to pay off. Knowing how much you’ll spend each month on a mortgage, health
care, and travel can help when you start building your retirement income plan.

 * Need help getting started? Use our five steps to creating your retirement
   plan.
 * Learn about four retirement savings strategies.
