MAKE SURE YOUR CONTENT LEAVES AN IMPRESSION

Today, when it comes to marketing, content is king – and any smart,
consumer-facing wine brand produces it. Which makes it all the harder for yours
to stand out. That’s where we come in…

About us

ABOUT US

Grand Cru Creative is the UK’s only specialist agency producing branded content
for the wine industry – from simple website copy or digital newsletters to
blogs, video content and printed material.

Founded by Guy Woodward, the former editor of Decanter and Club Oenologique
magazines, GCC draws upon decades of editorial experience to create branded
content across a range of formats, from digital and printed material to press
collateral and visuals.

The wine world has traditionally been rather conservative when it comes to
communicating with consumers. We harness an editorial approach to deliver
engaging content that both inspires and informs while also meeting a brand’s
commercial criteria. That means compelling, consumer-facing copy rather than
predictable, cliché-ridden puff. The same goes for imagery – no shots of
winemakers in cellars holding a glass to the camera. And most importantly, AI is
outlawed – no ifs and most definitely no bots.

WHO WE ARE

Our founder, Guy Woodward, has worked as a journalist for over 25 years in a
career spanning trade and consumer magazines, newspapers and branded content. As
well serving as editor of Decanter during a decade-long stint in which the
magazine achieved its largest-ever sales figures, he was most recently content
director of both the International Wine and Spirit Competition and Club
Oenologique magazine. In between times he spent five years editing Harrods’
stable of customer titles, as well as serving as editor of Food & Travel
magazine and associate editor of Le Pan magazine. He is also a former board
member and chair of the British Society of Magazine Editors.

Through the network of contacts built up over the course of this career, Grand
Cru Creative has access to a wide range of contributors with a wealth of
specialties. Our address book includes wine writers, photographers and
videographers whose work spans a range of formats and areas of expertise and who
know how to bring wine to life.

THE MISTAKE WE ALL MAKE IS THINKING WE HAVE ENOUGH TIME

WHAT WE DO

Our ultimate goal is to help clients communicate more effectively with their
customers. The manner in which they do so can take many forms, but ultimately
the most effective brands have a clear, resonant tone and identity.

Our core clientele are specialist wine businesses, be they retailers, producers
or importers, who are looking to create serious, sticky content for an engaged,
educated customer. Our expertise is very much on the fine-wine rather than the
mass-market end of the market and our key mission is to take the technical,
nerdy elements of wine and distil them down to the most memorable, engaging
parts that most resonate with consumers. Storytelling is at the heart of
everything we do.

Our approach is tailored to each individual client and its audience – there is
no off-the-shelf solution.

Projects could include such elements as the following:

 * Copywriting
 * Copy editing
 * Photography
 * Videography
 * Digital newsletters
 * Printed brochures/catalogues/coffee table books (we have a partnership with
   specialist book publisher First Press Editions)
 * Press and PR materials
 * Audit of current marketing and comms content
 * PR, marketing and comms consultancy
 * Event hosting (trade and consumer)
 * Company & sustainability reports

WHAT WE DON’T DO

Website design: We create content for digital projects, but we don’t develop the
tech or design the sites (though we can recommend people who do).

Social media: We’re about creating in-depth content for committed wine lovers –
Instagram and TikTok is not our forte (though again, we can connect you with
people for whom it is).
