The IUP Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences gives students the
tools necessary to organize and analyze data while also providing the
theoretical background of the topics that will help students better understand
them.

The department offers classes in a friendly and supportive environment that will
both challenge and engage students who have an interest in the fields of
mathematics and/or computer science.

The valuable skills learned in the Department of Mathematical and Computer
Sciences will translate well to the working world, as graduates have the ability
to work in myriad of occupations in both the public and private sector,
including engineering, economics, information technology, and education.

Students will also gain the knowledge and information background to help them
continue on in graduate school, toward master’s and doctoral degrees.

IUP STUDENTS ATTEND ICPC PROGRAMMING COMPETITION

IUP computer science undergraduates Kamir Walton, Noah Grattan, and Jacob
Vanluven competed in the 2023 ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest.

IUP CYBERSECURITY DAY SET FOR OCT. 31

IUP’s Institute for Cybersecurity, in collaboration with the PC4A Project and
Information Technology Support Center, will host the sixteenth annual
Cybersecurity Day on October 31. This annual event features nationally
recognized security experts as well as speakers from government, the security
industry, and academia. It is free and open to the community.

Secondary Mathematics Education alumnus Benjamin Phillian receives Yale Educator
Award for support and inspiration enabling their students to perform at high
levels and to achieve excellence.

IUP is hosting a mathematics education conference for elementary, middle, and
secondary teachers on the IUP campus. Student volunteers will direct
participants to the locations of the various sessions.
