I’ve never liked the saying “those who can’t do, teach,” as it implies teachers who can’t do what their students do are ineffective educators. Not only is that expectation inherently ableist, it ignores the reality that some people are better analyzers than others, that some individuals’ strengths lie in imagination and others’ lie in guidance, and that some people love to read but just don’t like to write long books. All that to say, yes, I have been published. I have a short story in the 2023 anthology, Pride and Presents, published by the Rainbow Romance Writers. “Simon Says Yes” features the search for the perfect Halloween costume and the return of joy and love after a season of grief and heartbreak. The story includes gay, trans, nonbinary, small fat, and drag representation. I’ve also written a novel, but it’s permanently in the revision stage, and I’d prefer to help other people with their books than spend time on mine. Additionally, I worked as a newspaper feature writer, photographer, and occasional copyeditor for fourteen years, so my nonfiction and short-form writing skills are on point.
