SMU ALUMNUS BRENT RENAUD KILLED WHILE COVERING THE WAR IN UKRAINE

SMU mourns the loss of its alumnus, Brent Renaud, surrounded by University
friends in the photo above. He was an award-winning journalist and filmmaker
killed while covering the war in Ukraine on Sunday, March 13. Brent graduated
from SMU in 1994 with a major in English and a minor in sociology. Brent’s
friends remember his empathy and compassion.


ADVANCING BAPTIST MINISTRY TRAINING AT SMU

The Eula Mae and John Baugh Foundation awarded a $2.7 million, three-year grant
to the Baptist House of Studies at the SMU Perkins School of Theology. The
contribution will support approximately 10 full-time Baugh Scholars enrolled in
Perkins master’s, Doctor of Ministry and Doctor of Pastoral Music degree
programs.


SMU DALLAS LITERARY FESTIVAL BRINGS COMPELLING AUTHORS TO CITY

SMU’s Dallas Literary Festival is back March 12-22 with discussions from more
than 100 acclaimed national and local authors as well as literary events across
the city.


SMU PRESIDENT R. GERALD TURNER HONORED BY SPAIN FOR PROMOTION OF COUNTRY'S ARTS
AND CULTURE

SMU President R. Gerald Turner received the Encomienda de la Orden de Isabel la
Católica, a decoration granted by King Felipe VI of Spain, at a February 18
ceremony at SMU’s Meadows Museum. The decoration recognized Turner for his
extraordinary civil character and accomplishments that have benefited Spain.


SMU RESEARCH CUT A WIDE PATH IN 2021

From answering pre-launch questions before a NASA mission to one of Saturn’s
moons, to identifying hundreds of mostly “hidden” landslides on the U.S. West
Coast, SMU professors and students fueled research with impact in 2021.

FELLOWS FOR THEIR ADVANCEMENT OF SCIENCE

The American Association for the Advancement of Science is the world’s largest
general scientific society and publisher of the Science family of journals.


EXPANDING SMU’S GERALD J. FORD STADIUM

The Garry Weber Foundation gives $50 million – the largest gift in the history
of SMU Athletics – to create the Garry Weber End Zone Complex. The foundation
established by former Mustang football letterman Garry A. Weber ’58 made the
commitment in support of a $100 million drive for a new 192,500-square-foot
complex at Gerald J. Ford Stadium, part of the $1.5 billion campaign, SMU
Ignited: Boldly Shaping Tomorrow.


SMU SENIOR AWARDED MARSHALL SCHOLARSHIP

Environmental science major Isabelle Galko is one of just 41 U.S. university
students to earn the prestigious opportunity to pursue graduate studies in the
U.K. A President's Scholarship and the Highland Capital Management Tower Scholar
program enabled her to study climate change and policymaking at SMU.


SMU LAW DEAN NAMED PRESIDENT OF RHODES COLLEGE

Jennifer Collins, Judge James Noel Dean and professor in SMU’s Dedman School of
Law, has been named the new president of Rhodes College, a four-year private
institution in Memphis with approximately 2,000 students.


SMU’S NEW HOME FOR GRADUATE EDUCATION

Supported by a gift from the Moody Foundation, SMU breaks ground on the new
Frances Anne Moody Hall, which will house SMU’s eighth degree-granting school,
the Moody School of Graduate and Advanced Studies.


THE DALLAS 100: SMU COX UNVEILS ITS 2021 RANKING OF THE FASTEST-GROWING PRIVATE
COMPANIES IN DALLAS-FORT WORTH

SMU Cox School of Business has named its annual list of the 100 fastest growing
private companies in DFW. A Frisco tech company fueled by artificial
intelligence is the big winner.

Friends of SMU Libraries 21st annual Tables of Content dinner features round
tables of engaging discussion and the presentation of the Literati Award to
author and culinary historian Adrian Miller. The event kicks off with a cocktail
reception showcasing 10 featured authors from the Dallas Literary Festival.
Proceeds from this event benefit the Friends annual Grants Program.
