ISRAEL DENIED US ACCESS TO MONITOR AND DOCUMENT ASSAULT ALLEGATIONS - OHCHR

NEW YORK – Volker Türk, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, revealed on
Friday that Israeli authorities had not responded to the Office of the United
Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights’ (OHCHR) request for permission to
monitor and document reports of sexual assaults on Israeli women during
Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. In its report, the OHCHR cited Israeli accusations of
rape, sexual violence, and attacks on women and girls on October 7 in southern
Israel. The report does not provide any evidence or confirmation of Israel's
assertions, Al-Mamlaka TV reported. The study also states that Israel formed a
non-governmental Israeli civilian committee to investigate charges of crimes
against women and children to document gender-based violence against them.
Despite repeated requests from the OHCHR, Israeli authorities have denied access
to monitor and document these charges. Furthermore, the Israeli government and
media allege that Hamas beheaded children and sexually assaulted women, although
Hamas disputed these accusations. If anything, films have circulated showing
Hamas members being pleasant to children, treating them with dignity and
respect. In October 2023, Salem Awais, UNICEF Middle East and North Africa
spokesperson, stated, "There is no evidence of Israeli children's heads being
severed or children being burned in Israel by Hamas." Israeli violations against
the Palestinians Regarding Israeli policies, the OHCR report emphasized the
increased number of arrests made by the IOF following October 7. It said that
the arrests were accompanied by "beatings, mistreatment, and humiliation of
Palestinian women and men, including sexual assault such as kicking genital
organs and threats of rape." The report also emphasized confirmation from
victims' testimony and eyewitnesses, as well as video footage uploaded by IOF
soldiers on social media networks. These recordings show the maltreatment of
Palestinians, including male captives who were videotaped or photographed while
naked or partially clad, blindfolded, handcuffed, and subjected to physical
violence and humiliation by IOF soldiers. According to the article, Israeli
officials have jailed at least 4,000 Palestinians from Gaza who live in Israel
and are isolated from the outside world after revoking their medical care and
employment permits on October 11. Detainees in Israel's custody face terrible
conditions, including threats of rape, lack of clothing and access to restrooms,
and restriction of food and water. Families and loved ones have been left in the
