My understanding is that Nouns Cares aims to bring aesthetics to existing
substance within Nouns (proposals), which I do find intriguing as how imwylin
says - not everyone is a marketer. Especially many technical builders who build
amazing things. There’s definitely something there.

But seemingly fitting, while the aesthetics are there in this proposal, it’s
really quite hard to get to the substance. Respectfully, it’s painfully
GPT-esquely written, which drags throughout most of the prop.

I believe, but am not sure, the tl;dr is - “We help approved props which have
substance, by providing aesthetics & marketing guidance” (free of charge to the
individual proposers?)

I don’t think quarterly white papers “focusing on the latest trends, insights
and strategies within the Web3 space” are of value or something that should be
funded by Nouns. Key Performance Indicators are mentioned but none set for this
very prop. Big brands like Dolce & Gabbana, Stake (the gambling site?), Amazon
and the NBA are name dropped here, where the potential relation to Nouns is
unclear, and even if feasible might very well not be wanted (i.e. a gambling
site).

Again, there’s definitely something here, but I’m not confident in how highly
technical builders who would theoretically benefit most from this, would
actually be onboarded or be helped by this specifically. Further, it just
doesn’t seem like the right culture fit.

EFFICAX 2.0 UPDATE #2 ⌐◨-◨

Exciting things are happening in the land of efficiency, and while very few of
them are "tangible", there's some really exciting developments to share.

1.3 IN USE!

Efficax 1.3 has been in beta for a bit and is well loved! In my opinion, it's
still a touch too clunky to be pushed as a "mainline" release, but 1.4 is well
in the works and I'm excited to get that out.

1.4 DESIGN PROGRESS

On the subject of 1.4, I've been able to put together a set of simple but fun UI
designs, mainly thanks to the awesome typography of MEK.txt, which includes the
icon fonts.

Everything here is just letters and boxes, so it's nice and small and neat!

The contract for 1.4 is also nearing completion, and an early version has been
looked over by my friends at the Solidity Guild. As I talked about in the
proposal, there's not enough money here for a formal audit, but having friends
glance at things sure helps.

CC0 ATTESTATION LEGAL UPDATE!

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, the lovely Alfred Steiner and I had a
great meeting about what CC0 attestation on-chain might look like. After some
wording tweaks, it looks like we have a pretty good way for folks to license
things as they wish.

Licensing is a silly thing sometimes, but with Alfred's help I think we've put
together something that will be greatly valuable to the community. No more
relying on a "this is CC0" tweet or a link on a website, it'll all be tied
immutably together 🤝

CONCLUSION

Overall, that's 3 huge conceptual pieces of the puzzle that have been knocked
out. With only 1 big one remaining (being the interfaces that will make up 2.0),
it's time to get building!

Unfortunately, even with some support, Nouncil has a majority wishing to vote
against this proposal. There was concerns about the budget/large ask, the
proposal creative content and whether it is a good fit for the DAO.

As we approach the end of the proposal, I want to express sincere gratitude to
all who have supported us and provided valuable feedback, which will ultimately
be applied to enhance our proposal!

The feedback received has been instrumental in sparking meaningful discussions
on the issue of water scarcity and highlighting the role of Nouns as a global
force for impact and public goods.

In light of the feedback, we believe that not passing this proposal will
ultimately be net positive as it allows us to revise and incorporate community
input effectively, to create an even more impactful and Nounish prop! ⌐◨-◨

For the upcoming Version 2 of the proposal, we have outlined the following
steps:

1. Collaboratively, myself, the Sierra Leone Rising team (Princess Sarah and
Hindo), along with representatives from NounsDAO Africa (Xargs and Davin),
will draft the second iteration of the proposal.

2. We will create a fun and informative video (wearing Noggles of course!),
providing a detailed overview of the proposal accompanied by personal
stories.

3. The revised proposal will feature a more comprehensive outline detailing the
step-by-step process of well construction, including the construction

brainstorm ways we can incorporate more Nounish aesthetic to the physical
well!)

I'm a big fan on using onchain tools and funding mechanisms to create IRL
change. I'd like to see more of these props put more effort into "Impact
Onboarding". Using this opportunity to create meaningful adoption not only
improves the prop, it also positions the community for additional funding
opportunities based on their onchain impact. I can envision local adoption
resulting in funding from RteroPGF or projects with a focus on emerging markets,
Lisk for example. These are the types of communities that can serve as a case
study, allowing us to learn more about how public goods funding mechanisms
create change and help us grow the ecosystem.

Nounboarding should consist of more than funding and one or two pieces of
content with people wearing Noggles. This extra effort helps proliferate Nouns
as an organization capable of creating change.

I'm confident this prop can pass with more Impact Onboarding implemented.

Supportive of this prop and it’s received a lot of good feedback. Voting Yes to
encourage the team to revise and try again. 2 things I would like to see in
these kinds of props; onboarding and minting. This initiative has the
opportunity to onboard a lot of people to Ethereum. Everyone from the Princesses
staff to anyone holding a shovel should be onboarded with a wallet, their first
NFT and a splits contract from NFT mints. I encourage projects like these to
mint everything. Tell a story using a collaborative 1155 collection. An
Instagram story last 24 hours an NFT collection lasts forever. I present Fridays
at The Park in Honduras as an example of behinds the scenes and NFT storytelling
that will maximize the initiative of the prop. (Check out this site!

addition they onboarded musicians, farmers and coffee people who minted their
first NFT to this collection and started collecting protocol rewards. Onboarding

I have missfeelings on this one. On one side I'd love to say yes. It really fits
the Nouns purpose. On the other hand there are parts that feel off. I suggest
proposers to gather feedback and try again. This can be done properly I believe
with substantial changes.

charitable projects (for example a recent example is nouns funding rebuilding
of a community school in uganda: https://www.nouns.camp/proposals/477). but i
like prop 477 b/c it feels a lot more grassroots and organic. in that case,
davin the proposer is a long time nouns fan and community member, the school
is the school davin himself went to, and he's going to be involved in the
rebuilding of it directly. with this prop, brennen and pat are the nouns
liasons, rachel is the proposer effectively it seems who knows sarah, sarah
culberson is kind of the brand name spokes person, and her foundation will be
doing the actual work. it just feels all too intermediated and not really a
direct relationship to the thing that's happening. in some ways it feels like
more just traditional charity work where a noteworthy person raises funding
via their reputation. while this is a good cause, i don't think this this is
a case where we can uniquely be a funder for the intended work or a funding
story that is noteworthy that will spread the story of nouns. really
appreciate rachel and brennen/pat for bringing this prop to nouns but voting
against for the reasons above.

Appreciate the feedback everyone! I've had a chat with Rachel and will be
letting this proposal run for the last day to get any last feedback and then
plan for a rework in collaboration with Xargs + NounsDAO Africa for a future
proposal.

Takeaways:

* Media should be more authentic and less transactional

* Really happy to see people who have supported Rachel including Nouns Square
community, Nouncil, Xargs, Brennen, and others guiding her on what are next
steps after this initial version of the prop. This is really important for
new members so that members stay active in the community so I'm thankful that
she's experiencing the same treatment that I got when I first joined.

* Onboarding new members can be challenging, but overall worth it as I'm
excited to see Rachel join one of the more tenured communities and love the
passion she has for public goods

* A future proposal should likely include a plan for continued support with or
without nouns funding for maintenance of wells. This was a really good lesson
learned from the conversations with Hindo, Sarah, and Rachel.

i'm not sure can be answered so easily and leave some question marks in my mind

Much of the beauty of Nouns is seeing different interpretations and
executions, as opposed to everything conforming to set brand guidelines and
execution strategies. This idea could work well for select client(s) but imo
is too smol in vision for how big Nouns aims to become. In Nouncil call you
said "Nouns will never be as big as Microsoft" whereas for me personally,
that is precisely the goal here.

We absolutely agree, which is why our services are optional. We're not aiming to
restrict the Nouns brand, we're here to support the Nouns and the broader
Web2/Web3 communities as needed. This includes all the services outlined in our
proposal as well as employing our community members to participate and earn
alongside Nouns Cares.

Additionally, it appears there needed to be a better understanding during the
Nouncil call. Regarding full-time support and quality output, we can't aspire to
be Microsoft with the current lack of structure, community & onboarding tools,
and general upkeep. To clarify, we believe in developing long-term value that
resonates at the core of the brands we support. Think of how Nike Tennis is an
integral part of Nike but can only maintain its health if Nike is preserved and
adequately represented.

Charity Water, a charity that builds wells for villages in Africa, has always
been one of my favorites because the positive impact relative to the capital
requirements is off the charts.

To brennen's point, this seems like a win win win where we can not only have
a positive impact, but also cultivate a relationship and help raise positive

This prop has always felt like an easy win for Nouns to showcase our positive
humanitarian and public goods efforts, while garnering support from a public
figure like Princess Sarah.

having support from the Princess could even lead us to future opportunities; And
perhaps can create a bridge to connect with diverse cultures and royalty from

While I appreciate the good intentions behind this proposal, and I want to be
clear that providing clean drinking water to communities in need is an
unquestionably worthy cause, I find myself unable to support the prop as it
currently stands due to concerns about the media plan.

Projects like this are opportunities to prove that communities like ours can
be a real force for good in the world, going beyond onetime donations and
forging deep, meaningful connections with the people and causes we support. I
have a sense from Brennen’s vote that this is supposed to be the first step
towards that — but I’m abstaining to prompt a discussion about how to build
that level of connection into props, as well as kickstart a conversation
about our goals and values as a community. We need to ask ourselves: How does
charitable work like this align with our mission of proliferating Nouns? How
are we sharing that work with the world?

The promise of ‘getting coverage of boots on the ground’ and putting noggles
on the project leader and having them thank the Nouns community feels
directionally incorrect. It positions Nouns as a benefactor, puts the
proposer on the hook for distribution, and also creates some strange optics
(no pun intended) by requiring the ones doing charitable work to put noggles
on as a ‘make good’ for funding. To truly be effective, proposals of this
nature need to have a specific vision for how they plan to proliferate Nouns.

Imagine if this proposal were rewritten to include an expanded media budget
that funded screenings of a short documentary about the well project in key
cities around the world. These events could serve as powerful educational
opportunities, teaching attendees about the Nouns treasury and the
transformative potential of an onchain internet that can democratize
financial access. This approach could extend the reach and impact of the
initiative far beyond our own crypto-native bubble, touching the lives of
people who might never otherwise encounter our community.

Or consider the possibility of making the raw footage of the well
construction available to the entire Nouns community, inviting everyone to
create their own edits and interpretations of the material. A revised prop
might allocate a portion of the budget to award prizes to the creators of the
most compelling videos.

Neither of these suggestions may be right for this exact prop, but what I’m
conveying is the belief that we should be leveraging the power of our
community and what makes Nouns unique. If we’re truly focused on
proliferation, then every proposal we consider must be crafted with an eye
towards creating a story worth telling.

I do think this is a story worth telling.

We should definitely do this, but reconsider the coverage and how we as a
community (can) show up to all of this. It matters as much as the action of
building the actual well.

Much of the beauty of Nouns is seeing different interpretations and executions,
as opposed to everything conforming to set brand guidelines and execution
strategies. This idea could work well for select client(s) but imo is too smol
in vision for how big Nouns aims to become. In Nouncil call you said "Nouns will
never be as big as Microsoft" whereas for me personally, that is precisely the
goal here.

My vwr for the Nouns x Farcaster round.

This time, before reading the proposals i decided to form an opinion and jot
down a few criteria that i could lean on and help inform my vote. This helped me
judge props based on deeper running convictions, both specifically for nouns and
more generally for building software.

My votes are based on:

1. conviction in the founder(s),

2. how likely i am to use the product (as a nouns 'power user')

3. and as a distant third, does the idea have a shot at scaling nouns in an
outsized way

As for conviction in founders, these are some of the things i care about:

* How well do they understand nouns (domain expertise)

* How good are they at communicating their idea

* Did they ship anything impressive in the past

* How nimble and iterative do they seem (bias for smaller team size)

* How likely are they to stick around after the 3 month term

Moreover, after reading all the proposals, i had also formed a conviction
against the all-in-one super-app. This approach is, in my (lived) experience, a
sign that users' pain points are not quite well understood. While ending up as a
super-app over time is definitely possible and something of a dream outcome, i
struggled to find conviction in most of the proposals that set out with the
all-in-one app idea as a primary design goal.

With that in mind, i ended up voting for the following:

The Nouncil poll closed with a tie and almost the same amount of abstains, very
split across the board. There was apprehension around aspects like potential
lack of due diligence, human exploitation and what nouns could be getting itself
into. The proposal was presented during the Nouncil call so proposers were able
to make their case, but ultimately the vote was divided and we must abstain as
we didn't hit the vote threshold of 18.

I believe this is an outstanding team that could help proposals they work
with. My big issue, is how does the resources get consumed throughout the
year? Do we have realistically a set of X hours we are billed against that
equates to 500k for 1 year? How do new proposals get access to the agency and
team to find opportunities?

In general, I find the proposal a little too macro and not enough micro on
how the funds get executed against nounish activations/events. In addition,
too much high level corpo fluff is everywhere.

Thank you for the input and kind words, Brennen! Most of the budget is allocated
towards bringing on full-time teams, developing internal workflows, and access
points for Nouns Cares. Our current engagement with brands like Nouns Shelter,
Yellow, Nouns DAO Africa, and Nouns Esports demonstrates our approach to
providing accessible and continuous support. Simple engagement methods through
web, social media, email, or Discord will evolve into more structured channels,
including a web portal, frames on Farcast, and a dedicated Discord channel—all
under development.

We'll continue to produce materials, creative content, campaigns, and events,
enabling any prop, partner, or collaborator to participate and develop alongside
us. With this in mind, I recommend referring to the sections 'What We Will
Provide to Nouns,' 'Organizational Structure,' and 'This Means You!'

Although we don't have a background in a traditional corporate environment, the
language used here is intended to outline actionable items that have helped us
scale independent brands (some generating over $22mm in annual sales) as well as
corporate brand partners, as mentioned in our case studies and proposal. While
the language may seem corporate, it's aimed at establishing a structured
foundation. This approach is crucial when engaging with significant partners and
integrating brands into the Nouns universe, especially for collaborations with
leading lifestyle brands, charities, retailers, press, and commercial partners.
Through this, we aim to evolve the Nouns standard and dispel the notion that
structuring and evolving Nouns into the brand we envision requires a more
thoughtful approach. This means taking steps towards maturity by having
full-time members and providing them with the best materials and language to
drive our collective success.
