Fincantieri and Naval Group cement their joint desire to build a future of
excellence for the shipbuilding industry and navies. They are materialising
their shared worldwide ambition.


27 SEPTEMBER 2017

Meeting in Lyon for the bilateral summit, the French and Italian governments
announce their intention to seek closer civil and military naval cooperation.


23 OCTOBER 2018

The governments of both countries provide their full and entire support to the
equal-share alliance presented by Fincantieri and Naval Group.


14 JUNE 2019

In Rome, the two groups sign the Alliance Cooperation Agreement that defines the
operating terms and roadmap of the joint-venture.


30 OCTOBER 2019

The joint-venture officially announces its name, Naviris, which embodies the
solidity of the partnership and convergence of long-term visions uniting the two
parent companies.

Our shared vision for the future, the foundation of the alliance, is based on a
mutual understanding of the challenges and realities of naval defence in the
world of today.

Competition is fierce in the global market. Increasingly numerous and
experienced newcomers are quickly attacking our areas of competency and pushing
back the limits of technological progress, the key to our success. In Europe,
the industry is fragmented, opportunities are shrinking and there are fewer
contracts.

Confronted with similar market challenges on both sides of the Alps, Fincantieri
and Naval Group are pooling a portion of their strengths to develop new energies
and retain their leadership, together. Building our sovereignty and controlling
our future is tantamount to reinforcing our autonomy.

The foremost shipbuilder of the western world in terms of diversification and
innovation, Fincantieri is also the leader in the cruise ship sector. It owns
over 20 shipyards across 4 continents and has built over 7,000 ships in 230
years of maritime history


NAVAL GROUP

The European leader in naval defence, Naval Group is acknowledged worldwide for
its cutting-edge technology. The group designs, produces and ensures the
through-life support of submarines and surface ships for the French and foreign
navies.


MORE THAN TWENTY YEARS OF COOPERATION

Naval Group and Fincantieri have already garnered success together: as early as
the 1990s, the Horizon air defence frigate programme, with two ships built per
country and the FREMM multi-mission frigate program since 2005, under which 10
vessels were built in each country.


A STATE-CONSOLIDATED ALLIANCE

As part of the Franco-Italian government agreement, the alliance is the natural
next step of the legacy partnership between two major world-renowned players. It
opens the way to the true European construction of naval defence.

FLEXIBILITY AND BALANCE FOR A LONG-TERM ADVENTURE

Naviris is developing the means for seamless and simple governance to better
adapt to the markets

Fincantieri and Naval Group have opted for an equal-share joint-venture for
their co-enterprise in order to guarantee agile decision-making and efficient
project execution.

With one foot at the head office in Genoa and the other at the French facility
in Ollioules, the Naviris teams will conduct bi-national and export projects in
agreement with the Franco-Italian management and parent companies, equally
represented on the Board of Directors.

With several projects in the launch phase, the Naviris teams have already begun
their collaboration, supported by first-rate resources and expertise.

Naviris has a portfolio of export opportunities entrusted by the parent
companies as well as projects under the Franco-Italian programs, such as the
mid-life renovation of the four Horizon air-defence frigates (with a common
combat management system).
Aside from the six ongoing R&T projects already in the works, the teams are
developing the European Patrol Corvette light frigates, intended to replace the
Floréal and La Fayette in France and the Comandanti classes as well as Sirio and
Orioni in Italy by 2030.
