CLAUDIO ESPERANÇA Hi. I am Claudio, and this is my personal page. I've been postponing writing this for a long time, but no more! SHORT BIOGRAPHY I am an Electronic Engineer, graduated at Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) in 1980. I worked for several companies in Rio de Janeiro, including UFRJ itself (at NCE), Dataprev, Datapoint, Medidata and Amplus (a now defunct network company). In 1990 I got a MSc degree in Systems Engineering at UFRJ, more specifically, at the Program of Systems Engineering and Computing (PESC), one of the graduate programs in COPPE. My MSc advisor was Dr Ronaldo Cesar Marinho Persiano (where are you Marinho?). Later, in 1995, I earned a PhD degree in Computer Science at University of Maryland, advised by Dr. Hanan Samet. I have been at UFRJ since 1989, first employed as an Engineer and later as a Professor at PESC, where I pursue my academic interests. These include all things related to Computer Graphics, such as rendering, animation, computational geometry, spatial databases, visualization and more. In 2021 I also joined UFRJ's Graduate Program in Design (PPGD) as a professor. CONTACT I can be reached most easily by email at claudio.esperanca@gmail.com (personal) and esperanc@cos.ufrj.br (work). LATTES CV In case you are looking for a full Curriculum Vitae, you can access my Lattes CV. If you are not familiar with the term, this is a CV database sponsored by CNPq, the main Brazilian research funding agency. COURSES TAUGHT AT UFRJ I use Moodle as an e-learning platform for my courses. The links below will take you to a copy of the course material hosted at cesperanca.org. You must use a guest login to access the contents. Most of the material is in Portuguese. 1. Computer Graphics (COS751) 2. Data Structures (COS231) 3. Algorithms and programming (COS110) 4. Computational Geometry STUDENTS I am currently advising the following graduate students (in no particular order) 1. Renato Campos Mauro. Theme: Techniques for efficient big data web visualization. 2. José Augusto Sapienza Ramos. Theme: Sector lists. 3. Lucas Barcellos Oliveira. Theme: Progressive web visualization. RECENT PAPERS 1.
