The PIT: Dark Forest Test round

Welcome to the warm-up round of dark forest, the PIT community round.

To prepare everyone for the PIT community round, we have provided a warm-up
round for everyone to try out, learn the game mechanics, and practice any
necessary tactics you wish to deploy during the main gameplay. Note that any
scores made in this warm-up round will not be counted towards the community
round starting.

How to participate in the warmup round?
Quick Links:
Game: https://darkforest-demo.altlayer.io
Faucet: https://devnet-faucet.altlayer.io/
Block Explorer: https://devnet-explorer.altlayer.io/

We will have an onsite session at the PIT
Date: 3 Feb 2023
Time: 4.30PM - 7.30PM
Venue: the PIT, main stage

Step 1: Go to https://darkforest-demo.altlayer.io/ and click Enter
Step 2: You will now see a prompt as shown below. Type n to generate a new
burner wallet account. Do not use this account for any other purpose other than
the warm-up game.

Step 3: The game will initialise a new account for you, hover over the truncated
account address and you will be able to copy the full account address. We
recommend copying it and saving it for future reference.

Step 4: Go to https://devnet-faucet.altlayer.io/ to request some testnet ALT
tokens from the faucet. These ALT tokens do not bear any market value but you
will need them to pay for gas when you send transactions to the network. Use
your account address from the previous step to receive the tokens by clicking
the Submit button. You should receive your tokens within 2 secs. To check if you
have received the tokens, you could use the block
explorer https://devnet-explorer.altlayer.io/.

Step 5: Back to the game prompt, follow the instructions and press any key to
continue. You will see the following screen where the game data gets loaded.

Step 6: You will see another prompt at the end to find a home planet for you.
Press Enter to continue.

Step 7: This will open up a pop-up for transaction confirmation to initialise
yourself as a player. Click Approve as highlighted and check the box to
auto-confirm similar transactions in the future. Make sure that your browser
pop-ups are not blocked. You will have to enable pop-ups for the game page.

Step 8: At this stage, you will see a few transaction confirmations on the game
prompt. Press Enter to enter the gameplay.

Step 9: You will now see the game screen. Click Proceed in the central panel and
you will see the private key corresponding to your wallet. You may want to save
it in case you wish to login back later. Hover over the truncated private key
and you will be able to see and copy the full private key. A gentle reminder not
to use this key for any other purpose other than for the warm-up game.

Step 10: You are all set now to play the game. If you are new to the game, you
may want to play the tutorial by clicking Yes in the panel on the top-left and
follow the instructions. You may also want to go back to Step 0 and watch the
walkthrough video.
Step 11: You can see your score in the top-panel and scores of other players via
the Leader Board plugin as shown in the screenshot below.

Remember, your goal is to get the best score possible! Even though this is just
a warm-up game, practising here will increase your chances of winning in the
main round starting on September 9.
Details on Scoring
Below we present how you score points in the game.
1 point is given for every 10 SILVER you withdraw from the game. To complete
this, you need to mine silvers from Asteroids, move them to Spacetime Rips, and
withdraw them.
Points for gaining an ARTIFACT. Your score is based on the level of artifact:Lv1
— 100,000Lv2 — 200,000Lv3–500,000Lv4–20,000,000Lv5–50,000,000
Points for capturing a planet in the Capture Zone, and holding it for a certain
time. Your score is based on the level of the planet you
hold:Lv1–0Lv2–250,000Lv3–500,000Lv4–750,000Lv5–1,000,000Lv6–10,000,000Lv7–20,000,000Lv8–50,000,000Lv9–100,000,000.
Note that capture zones are marked in yellow in the map. They will rotate every
255 blocks (i.e., about every 8.5 mins). Once you capture a planet, do hold it
for 5400 blocks (i.e., about 3 hours). A countdown timer is shown on top of the
planet for easier reference. Also note that the timer will not reset once the
countdown starts even when the planet owner switches hands during this time.
