HERE'S WHAT TO KNOW:

The CEOs are facing a hostile congressional dais, with lawmakers suggesting the
companies are partly to blame for the deaths of children and comparing the harms
they pose to the tobacco industry and Boeing, whose planes are facing regulatory
scrutiny after one was grounded after its door flew off.
Senators repeatedly pressed the executives to publicly support measures that
could expose them to greater liability for facilitating the spread of child
abuse material. Lawmakers are looking to build support for bipartisan bills that
have languished amid opposition from industry and digital rights groups.
Sexual images and videos of children online are more widely available than ever,
according to a nonprofit that tracks such material for the U.S. government,
despite decades of efforts by government and private actors to eliminate it from
the internet.
