As consumers move into the digital age, retailers are swapping traditional processes with technology. 1 Target shoppers are noticing odd add-ons to the self-checkout processCredit: Getty For example, Target has added multiple self-checkouts to its stores to bring convenience to the shopping experience. And while some shoppers appreciate the move, others have noticed some odd extras the retailer has included. Shoppers took to X to voice their concerns on some strange additions to self-checkout. One X (formerly Twitter) user wrote: “Self-checkout is the worst, and you have to look at a video of yourself the entire time you check out.” READ MORE ON TARGET TARGET MISSED DRAKE TARGET SHIRT: HOW TO GET UNOFFICIAL FOR ALL THE DOGS MERCH SPOT ON I WORK AT TARGET - THERE'S A REASON YOU SHOULDN'T BUY STRAWBERRIES IF THEY'RE MOVED “No thank you. Another commented on a so-called judgmental tone she received from an employee. “Can we talk about the way the Target self-checkout lady says ‘see you soon…’ It just sounds very judgy and accurate at the same time.” The retailer commented back: “I would never judge u self-checkout exists to judge u.” MOST READ IN MONEY NEW MONEY NEW $4,555 CHECK TO DROP INTO BANK ACCOUNTS THIS WEEK WITH ANOTHER ON THE WAY FESTIVE FARWELL FOOD LION WILL CLOSE 1,100 STORES FOR ENTIRE DAY LIKE WALMART AND COSTCO POWER PLAY 'WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO' ASKS $1M POWERBALL WINNER AS STATE TAKES THOUSANDS PAY UP CHASE CHARGED ME $25,000 EVEN THOUGH I CLOSED MY ACCOUNT 20 YEARS AGO NEW POLICY Recently, shoppers have been slamming Target over testing a new policy at select stores. The policy states that self-checkout users must only have 10 items or less. A store in Maine switched to the new policy to speed up the checkout process after reports of 50 people deep on the busiest days. This has become a hot point for many shoppers as they spend much of their time waiting in long lines for a self-checkout machine. Some have noticed employees facilitating the lines or doing other tasks like folding clothes. While the employees may indeed be busy, to the customer, it looks as if they aren’t - all adding to the frustration. This is because customers will see multiple employees seemingly standing around while the traditional checkout lines remain empty. Plus, it's not just Target. Kroger, Walmart, and Aldi have all seen a flood of complaints via X or Reddit commenting on the issue. In fact, one shopper threatened to boycott Kroger after its long line. “This self-checkout line is absolutely ridiculous and they only have 2 registers with cashiers opened. All the lines are to the back of the store," they said.
