over $11000 worth of mics, including the biggies: TLM-102, 103, U87, plus two
SM7b's and two Procasters.Looking for a broadcast sound? Just buy this.
Seriously. Just go ahead and do it. Rode really, Really, REALLY outdid
themselves with this thing. I'm sorta astonished. For the price of one SM7, you
can outfit yourself with FOUR of these. Character of the mic is as good or
better than most broadcast dynamic mics. Frequency is right where they plot it
at. Built like a friggin' dreadnaught, this puppy weighs in at a whopping 1lb
14.7 oz (yes, I weighed it, because I just couldn't believe what my hands were
telling me.) Sound is everything the Procaster gives you, minus just a bit of
(IMO, unnecessary) 10+k brightness, and a wee bit of "oomph." I do voiceovers,
and actually have to dial *back* <100hZ. I don't want "oomph." I want FLAT, with
solid, consistent presence, and no huge dynamic curve. Side rejection is very
good, verging on great. +8khZ will sneak in, but environmental noises below 8k
will likely be of no great concern.Of note: unless you have a *very* high end
preamp, or a deck/board that has very robust gain controls per channel, you'll
really want an in-line gain solution. This mic IS gain-hungry, and the signal of
mine DEFINITELY benefits from a FetHead. Without, I had to push my Scarlett up
to 9.5 to stripe an acceptable track in Logic, and it was clipping the mic *and*
giving me low volume anyway. With the in-line, I got a great take at 45% on the
Scarlett, and a beautiful, clean, warm recording with plenty of headroom.This
thing nails it in all categories. I'm sorry in advance to everybody reading this
that missed out on the second wave of these that became available for like 5min
in October. May the odds be in your favor for the next time. I'll be taking
another swipe at a few more of these myself. Worth twice what they're asking
for.All the hype is true...

GREAT FOR PODCASTS! I have been researching podcasting microphones for the past
6 months and by far this mic does the job perfectly. I was debating on whether
to get the Shure SM7B which is a legendary mic throughout the music industry and
other applications. Although, the Shure SM7B is great. It is quite expensive for
my budget and here is were the Podmic comes in to play. It has a robust build
and is heavy which I like , but the performance of this mic , I feel , is just
as good at the SM7B. Granted I am no professional , but when I listened to both
mics from Youtubers. I couldn't really hear much of a difference. They both have
exceptional sound quality , but for the price the Podmic definitely comes out on
top. Hence , that's why I bought 4 of them. Yes , there are other mics from Rode
that are more expensive and theoretically sound better. Although, I am not a
huge fan of Rode mics with exception of the Podmic. I am an Azden user myself
and love their sound , but the Podmic is EXACTLY what I needed for the podcasts
I am conducting. I use these mics with the Zoom H6 for mobile applications and
the Zoom Livetrak L-8 for in house use. Hopefully this review can shed some
light on those who are thinking to invest in these mics. This is coming from a
Azden fan , so that should tell you something haha!

So $100 for this mic put together with a cheap(ish) mixer and you have yourself
an above average preforming gaming/podcasting/streaming audio rig. This Mic is a
freakin' tank (you'll hear that a lot in reviews). It's classy looking, so no
need to hide it off camera and if someone breaks into your house with this
quarantine stuff happening, this thing could easily be doubled as a wepon. It
might not work after but at least you'll be alive to buy another one.

So don't go off of my headline if you don't have a lot of background noise and
you are okay with talking directly into a mic. I have a GOXLR and it has more
than enough power to amplify this microphone. I spent many hours messing with
Noise Gate and EQ settings watching different videos on exactly what needed to
be changed to fix what I was having issues with and I could not make myself
happy with the sound unless I was talking directly into the mic by this I mean
within inches. The mic did pick up my voice from farther away but I had to add
so much gain that it also picked up the wings of flies buzzing around (this was
a joke) and the sound was not smooth or clear even after many many adjustments.
I would not recommend this mic to people who want to game comfortably without a
mic pressed up against their mouths so their chat can hear them. I hate to give
this mic a bad review but no one else is talking about this issue because I am
probably one of the very few people who actually care about this. This review is
for those who would care.

This mic will be used by a family member for streaming and professional
voice-overs. As a starter mic, this one easily competes with the Shure and Audio
Technica's worth 3-5 times as much, and even the Rode broadcaster microphone,
which is one of my personal favorites.
Combine this with one of those semi-circle mini sound booth, (I got him the
Neewer one) and you sound like you are in a very expensive studio set up. He
does not have a mic pre-amp and is using a Behringer PC interface. It is working
and sounding good, but it is obvious that a "cloud-lifter" or a clone would be a
huge help by directly boosting the gain.
Do not use spring loaded arm with this microphone unless you use it in the
position that a broadcaster does with the microphone's home position being near
the mount and the microphone screw hole facing up. Even though it is only 2 Lbs,
most arm's just cave to its gravitational force. The Rode spring arm is good but
still prefers a broadcaster style use and not a long or stretched arm use.
I am super impressed with the high value this microphone is and are looking
forward to see how sustainable it is!
UPDATE: OK I bought a second one since the prices are going up and supply is
going down. This is the $400 sounding microphone for under $200 to get. I am
thinking now I should have bought the 5 pack with mixer.

I bought this mic after wanting it for over a year now and it sounds amazing
truly podcast quality but there are things you will need too get it running well
and without a problem mostly also this mic is super heavy like you can feel the
quality just from holding it alone.
You are gonna need an xlr cable duh and also a audio interface again duhhh but
don't cheap out on these unless you want to get a gain booster which are hard af
too buy like finding one in stock that won't break the bank will be like finding
a grain of sand. Also get a good xlr cable most aren't expensive and mine was 4
pounds and feels good and won't break.
If you are in a windy environment get a pop filter to put over it as the
internal pop filter is crap and basically not even a feature.
Also if you already have a boom arm or any kind of mic arm it should support it
as it supports both 5/8" and 3/8" threaded mic stands so no need for a new one
or a janky or overpriced adaptor.
My only complaints are the fact they advertise a pop filter built in which I'm
sure there is too a degree but it does nothing compared too a real one. And also
how on my boom arm it doesn't like too screw on securely as the built in shock
mount or stand can turn allowing the mic to move where ever needed means I
tighten it as much as I would like but it's not a deal breaker.
Overall an amazing microphone and sounds incredible for the price(excluding
cables and interface and maybe gain booster if needed) and the fact that with
some simple EQ it can sound just like the SM7B which seems too be the standard
for mics like these I don't know why when this thing exists. So in short in my
opinion (baring in mind i came from a blue snowball condenser mic) this thing is
insanely good for the price and I don't think I will ever swap mics now. So if
you can afford it get it unless you find something you like more. But if you
want a good quality and amazing sounding mic for under 100 pounds then this is
the one for you but please do listen to sound tests before you decide as not
everyone likes the same sound I like :)

I used a ModMic before, which is way better than most headset mics.
This is even better than that and, with a boom mic, not too tricky to use.
You can get real close for that intimate 'radio' sound, or can stay a few inches
back for a more 'natural' sound.
Low noise floor, though I admit, I use a gate (on a GoXLR) so I don't experience
it much. Not noticeable when speaking anyway.
The built-in shock mount works well enough that I am happily using an arm mount
clamped to my desk where I type.
The built-in pop filter works well enough that I don't worry about speaking
directly into the end from close up.
I'm no sound engineer, but I'm quite picky and I'm very pleased.

The Rode Podmic is probably the best budget xlr microphone for YouTube,
Streaming and Podcasting. I stream and host my own podcast, so audio quality is
of very high importance. The audio is crisp and clear, the plosives are there
but nothing a pop filter can't fix.
Not on that, it looks good and has a good weight to it so you know it ain't
gonna break anytime soon.
Also make sure because of the weight you have either a strong table instead of a
cheap IKEA one or just a small stand. As the clamp from a microphone arm will
damage the desk.
All in all its a very good mic and pairs well with the Scarlett 2i2.

Bought as a backup to the Rode Procaster.
Both are heavy microphones. The Podmic is more manageable when you're looking
for a slightly more portable solution. I think the microphone is still probably
best situated and used as a desk/studio microphone.
The sound is warm and full. I'm not a sound engineer or voiceover artist, I'm
just using my ears and comparing it to the small diaphragm condenser microphones
I use for "on-the-go" interviews and ad-hoc sound recordings. The Podmic is just
warmer and has more presence than smaller interview mics.
It's "horses for courses" with microphones. If I was doing an interview
outdoors, or even on location and wanted the ultimate flexibility I'd still use
a smaller mic, but for sit-down interviews this mic is great value and a great
intro to the present, intimate, announcer voice we expect.

I bought this microphone because ive been an admirer of the Rode brand for a
couple of years. I use it for streaming as well as podcasting and i have to say
it is absolutely perfect.
The construction of the mic is top quality, it is sturdy, heavy and structurally
sound. The weight of the mic makes it feel even higher in quality.
The quality of this microphone really shines in how it sounds, i have it paired
with my TC Helicon GOXLR and with barely any EQ at all it sounds incredible.
When you get up close to it to make use of the proximity effect it makes the
microphone sound even thicker and have a deeper, more enriched sound. I have
managed to make it sound nearly indistinguishable from the Shure SM7B which if
you know what THAT mic sounds like then you will understand the quality of this
one.
I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to upgrade their streaming audio
or for someone who is looking for a great XLR microphone that wont cost them an
arm and a leg.
