Anthony Albanese is expected to take a hard line on trade when he visits China
next week, including declining an anticipated request from Beijing that
Australia support its entry into the regional free trade agreement, the CPTPP.

Mr Albanese’s trip, the first to China by an Australian Prime Minister since
2016, and which comes 50 years after Labor prime minister Gough Whitlam
kick-started diplomatic ties, will represent the culmination of 18 months of
efforts by both sides to stabilise the relationship.
