Nu-disco's premier scalpel-wielding wookee is back on Bandolier. He's brought
with him a quartet of tried-and-tested revisions aimed fairly and squarely at
disco dancefloors. The Star Wars-loving re-editor hits the ground running with
'To The Disco', a typically trippy and lightly dubbed-out chunk of peak-time
disco excitement, before beefing up a Clavinet-heavy slab of disco-funk
weightiness ('Gettin' Heavy'). His love of slowly unfurling, low-end-heavy
peak-time disco comes to the fore on 'Rollin' Down Town', where harmonic
vocalisations, tight acid lines and echoing vocal snippets catch the ear, while
'Play The Game' is a filter-smothered chunk of loopy disco-house suspense.

Loxodrome, the legendary alias of acclaimed producer Jamie Odell, makes a
triumphant return with the captivating "Drop Out EP" on Cyphon Recordings. This
four-track offering showcases Odell's ability to seamlessly blend the past and
present, paying homage to the roots of electronic music while pushing the genre
into bold new territory. The title track, "Drop Out," sets the tone with its
brooding, minimalist approach. A deep, jacking rhythm provides the foundation,
layered with gritty, modular synth textures that evoke a sense of unease and
urgency. "Emberfall" follows, introducing a more vibrant, acid-tinged energy.
Saturated 808 drums and a prominent 303 line create a driving, uplifting feel,
while the warm, dreamy Juno string chords lend a nostalgic touch reminiscent of
the golden era of Italian dream house. The "Emberfall (Dub)" mix strips the
track back to its raw essentials, allowing the acid-focused elements to shine.
Closing the EP, "Fornax A" delves into deep, late-night electro territory, with

Like label owner Laurent Garnier's DJing, the latest compilation on COD3 QR
spans a range of styles. It encompasses sounds as diverse as the jazzy piano and
gentle back beats of Carlos Nilmmns' "Just Another Day" and the intense white
noise bursts and slamming techno of Manuel M's "Take". Other familiar,
Garnier-approved styles also make the cut. There's the dramatic, soaring Detroit
techno of Jim Rivers' "Canna" and Costello's "Dream Operator", while Alex
Rotschild delivers sassy tech-house on "Cosmorak". Of course no release on the
French DJ's imprint would be complete without a curveball; this time it comes in
the form of Onur Ozman's moody vocal-led contribution, "If U Want".

Caged BirdKaoz Theory
Kerri Chandler is incapable of making a mediocre record - and given the length
of his career and the volume of music he's released since the turn of the '90s,
that's some feat. 'Caged Bird', featuring vocals from South African rising star
Nae, is one of the legendary artist's most ear-catching and soul-enriching
efforts for some time. For proof, check his 'Full Vocal Mix', where Nae's
pretty, picturesque vocals, bittersweet piano refrains and sultry strings rise
above a crunchy, unfussy, hot-stepping deep house beats. Chandler provides a
typically tasteful instrumental take and two alternative mixes: the breezy 'Feel
Mix', featuring swooping synth-strings and flute solos aplenty courtesy of Mauro
Capitale, and a slightly bouncier and harder-edged (though no less picturesque)
'Vocal Dub'.
