CREATING STRONG CONNECTIONS!

The chemical industry is in need of green building blocks. These need to be
developed in a culture of intensive cooperation between knowledge institutions
and industry. The Sustainable Industry Challenge initiative is opening up
opportunities in Northern Netherlands for global innovators to test and scale
solutions together with the local business community, educational institutions
and government. We bring scale-ups and large businesses together to make deals
and solve industry challenges. So are you a scale-up in the field of green
chemistry, energy transition or recycling? And is your technology (almost) ready
to accelerate the transition of regional industrial companies towards a
sustainable future? Enter the Sustainable Industry Challenge – Chemport Edition.
Read more about the Chemport Europe ecosystem.

If you would like to continue to follow news and updates regarding the Chemport
Europe ecosystem and / or follow-up on activities resulting from the 2020

ARE YOU READY TO UNLOCK AN OPPORTUNITY?

We believe in making an impact together. Apply to one of the challenges for
hydrogen, green chemistry or recycling and take advantage of everything the
‘Sustainable Industry Challenge’ has to offer. The overall winner will receive
€100.000 to support the implementation of their pilot project in Northern
Netherlands. Terms and conditions apply.

TOTAL PRIZE MONEY: €100.000

AND INVALUABLE ACCESS

TO THE most innovative INDUSTRIAL COMPANIES IN THE Chemport Europe region.

INNOVATE TOGETHER

Take on a challenge in one of three themes

HYDROGEN

Hydrogen – the most abundant element in our universe – can be used as a fuel,
but it can also be used by the chemical industry. It is mostly produced from
natural gas (which yields H2 and CO2). Production through electrolysis of water
is also possible, but this is more expensive. However, this process is promising
for ‘power to chemicals’: using surplus energy from wind or solar to produce
green hydrogen by electrolysis. The green hydrogen economy, however, is a new
market that needs innovation to overcome technical and economic challenges.
Therefore, we innovative scale-ups that can add value to the H2 value chain.

GREEN CHEMISTRY

Supply chain collaboration and exchange of raw materials between companies is
common in our region. Crops such as sugar beet, potatoes and also grass and wood
are increasingly being used to produce sustainable chemicals. The chains will be
closed in the near future, creating a circular economy.

RECYCLING

Both mechanical and chemical recycling are becoming increasingly important,
especially for the plastics industry. Our region has many companies that are
specialised in mechanical recycling. It can only be performed on so called
single-polymer plastic. Examples include PE, PP, PS, PET. Our region is also
extremely suitable for chemical recycling. In Emmen for example, a chemical
recycling pilot plant is being built as we speak.
