TOP 10 BEST MOVIES OF ALL TIME

From heart-throbbing romances to spine-chilling thrillers, endearing comedies to
eye-opening dramas, the universe of cinema is vast and varied. A great movie has
the power to transport us to different worlds, to make us laugh, cry, and
ponder, to inspire us, and even to change the way we see the world.

But what makes a movie one of the "best"? Is it the gripping story that keeps us
on the edge of our seats? The unforgettable performances that leave us
awestruck? The innovative cinematography that paints a visual feast for our
eyes? Or the profound messages that linger in our minds long after the end
credits roll? Perhaps, it's a mixture of all these elements, and maybe a few
more.

The journey to pick the best movies of all time is no less fascinating than the
movies themselves. It's a voyage filled with nostalgia, wonder, and discovery.
It's revisiting the stories that touched our hearts, the characters we fell in
love with, and the cinematic moments that took our breath away. It's about
recognizing the extraordinary work of directors, screenwriters, actors, and
countless other artists and technicians who pour their heart and soul into these
creations.
The Top Ten
1 Forrest Gump

This movie is the ultimate classic. It is one of the rare films that make the
viewer applaud the film involuntarily at the end. The film showcases the bright
and sweet growth of a young boy, paralleled with an equally sad tale of romance
and friendship. Its notable point is that it covers the most turbulent times of
humanity, from the Beatles to the end of the Cold War. Forrest's love for Jenny
is eternal and the most symbolic of all love ever portrayed on screen. The film
is narrated with good humor, making us laugh even at its saddest moments. This
is the best film of Tom Hanks, and in my opinion, it deserved 11 Oscars, much
more than Titanic and Lord of the Rings. This is one of the rare films where we
find Hollywood's technology meeting art, which is not something we see often
nowadays. It is the film of the 20th century in every sense.

Forrest Gump is often overlooked because of many of the great movies that came
out the same year such as the previously mentioned masterpiece Shawshank
Redemption, another brilliant masterpiece Pulp Fiction, one of the best Disney
films ever created in Lion King, one of the best Keanu Reeves movies in Speed,
and more (also because it won the Best Picture which is fine with me this is all
subjective). This does not take away from the fact that this is one of the best
movies of the 1990s and likely all time. This movie is simply breathtaking, from
the acting, the dialogue, the cinematography, the basically everything. This
film is one of only a few to almost make me cry, a really emotional movie with a
really exceptional story. I really like movies, I've seen hundreds of them,
maybe thousands. I can say that I understand some of the placements on the list,
although this list says "best" movies of all time people are choosing movies
that are their "favorite" or some of the more "popular" ...more

This literally has everything that makes a movie good and puts all these great
elements together in the best way. Side story: I remember the first time I saw
this, my dad thought I would like it, and I was doing something else at the
time, so I was just like, "I guess for ten minutes or so." Then minutes of
kind-of-watching turned into fifteen minutes of seriously watching, and the
power went out, and I was furious. Then the power came back on half an hour-ish
later, and I was really happy. Then we watched the rest of it. I really fell in
love with it without even planning to. But yeah, just, it's an incredible movie.
Forrest is so interesting in that his IQ isn't that high, but he's actually a
lot wiser than most of the characters in the movie, in my opinion.

This movie has everything from historical settings to fantastic war sequences to
a love story to amazing special effects. I've read the book and Tom Hanks'
acting elevated the character from a fat dumb doofus who can play football to an
insightful force of nature, teaching us all life's lessons. Brilliant from start
to finish. And those elites who say this movie plays to the LCD, it's all about
levels, children and adults, and all races and genders will find something that
will inspire them from this movie.

2 The Dark Knight

Best comic book movie ever made. Ledger was damn mesmerizing as the psychopathic
Joker. Bale delivers a great Batman and the best Bruce Wayne. His Batman
would've been best if it had not been for the voice, although I enjoyed
listening to it. It's just that I've never imagined Batman talking like that.
Easily beats every comic book movie ever made, except maybe Batman 3 which is
currently in the process of getting made. Just my Humble Opinion.

The finest acting performance by Heath Ledger and finesse executed by the highly
esteemed director Christopher Nolan generated what I believe to be the greatest
film of all time. If this one isn't, then Forrest Gump should be. This movie is
full of so much more than just raw action. It has deep meaning, symbolism, and
powerful dialogue pertaining to a story that endlessly keeps you on the edge of
your seat and has you begging for more when all is over. Personally, I love the
dialogue between Alfred and practically everyone he talks to because he is full
of so much wisdom and insight, with an answer to everything. Also, the Joker's
dark views on chaos and Batman's opposition to those views were very interesting
as well. The whole plot of the movie goes far deeper than epic fights, gadgets,
and stunts. This movie even teaches us all a lesson, but you have to watch the
movie yourself to understand what that is.

Christopher Nolan is a genius. All of this movie is a revolutionary, unmatched
masterpiece, but two scenes in particular come to mind. SPOILER ALERT! First is
the scene on the bomb-rigged boats. Whether conscious or subconscious, every
viewer of that scene is deciding what they would do, and most choose that they
would kill the convicts (since most viewers associate themselves with the
citizens, and not the convicts). This makes it so incredibly heartbreaking and
humbling when the viewer sees the convicts choose to save the citizens, because
to the viewer it feels like they were just saved. Second, the scene where Heath
Ledger is standing in the road, wide open, with Batman zooming towards him in
the Batpod. The Joker's true intentions show through, and they are to break
Batman. He shows just how much of a psychopath he is, screaming the eternally
echoing "HIT ME!" This forces Batman to decide: justice or revenge. I won't
spoil what happens, but it shapes the viewer's idea ...more

This movie, whether you are a comic fan or not, is simply amazing. It is a fun,
emotional film and simply a work of art. This is a film people still talk about
to this day. It is beautiful in every way, and to top it off, Heath Ledger as
The Joker was truly amazing. Go watch the film. Christian Bale does a damn good
job as Batman, and so does the rest of the cast: Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine,
Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart, and Maggie Gyllenhaal play their roles respectively.
In my opinion, it is truly the greatest film ever made.

3 The Godfather

When it comes to ranking things like sports, film, etc., I usually have personal
bias and consider the opinions of others as well. Generally, the items that
claim the top spot in these lists are very popular, iconic, influential, and
beloved. They are widely acknowledged as the best, as is the case with Michael
Jordan in basketball. In my view, The Godfather is the greatest movie ever. This
film had a profound influence in many ways, completely changing people's
perspectives on filmmaking. Additionally, it features numerous iconic lines that
have become part of popular culture. There's a 90% chance you have heard someone
say, "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse." Moreover, almost everyone
knows about this movie, and it is adored by both the general public and movie
critics. The movie itself is simply amazing. It is directed by one of the
greatest directors, Coppola, and boasts possibly the greatest cast, including
Brando, Duvall, Pacino, and others. I don't want to ...more

I'll admit, this is my second favorite movie tied with Cast Away. Cast Away is
just so breathtaking and amazing, but I am just as obsessed with this movie as
well. Now let's talk about The Godfather. The storytelling in this movie is
something we don't get nowadays. We have movies with explosions, no character
development, god-awful acting, and no plot. This is top-notch acting, and Brando
outdid himself on this one. The plot is so intricate and deep and relies on
storytelling along with action for a portrait of a mafia. The character
development and the emotion also make up a good chunk of this movie. There is
one scene where a man beats up and hurts a woman while in a relationship. This
was so sad and emotional and also shocking. There are also more shocks in the
movie. To top it all off, the color of this film is amazing. There is a golden
tone in some scenes but also scenes with no color tone. Yellow is a prominent
color for objects in this film and just a prominent color in this ...more

Personally, I would consider both Part 1 and Part 2 at the top of the list.
Either way, this is definitely the best movie of all time.

Is it my favorite movie? No, but it's definitely up there. But in terms of
quality, it's cinema's all-time high. It has everything: Oscar-worthy acting
(Brando got the Oscar), incredible direction and cinematography, possibly the
best script ever in a movie, and a ton of quotable lines (I'll make you an offer
you can't refuse). Simply put, this movie is a work of art.

But what puts it over the top is that not only is it beautifully crafted, it's
also incredibly engaging and entertaining! There are several movies that can be
considered art (like Citizen Kane), but many of them come off as boring. This,
however, is not just a landmark in terms of quality, it's one of my favorite
movies ever that never bores me. There are so many layers to this movie, yet the
outside layer by itself is incredible, and the artistic elements make it that
much ...more

I absolutely love this movie. A movie that had one of the best casts ever
assembled with greats like Brando, Pacino, and Duvall. It's hard to hate this
movie, the performances are stellar, it grabs your attention, planned really
well, it was also kind of beautiful in a way, and was made by a great director
in Francis Ford Coppola. It also was a very influential movie. I'm not sure if
anyone will ever look at this... but here is my personal top 10 list (if you're
curious):
1. The Godfather 6. Schindler's List
2. The Shawshank Redemption 7. The Dark Knight
3. Citizen Kane 8. One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest
4. Psycho 9. It's A Wonderful Life
5. 2001: A Space Odyssey 10. The Legend Of The Drunken Master.

4 The Shawshank Redemption

Absolute classic. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins show some of the greatest
acting put to screen in this film. The climax, where Andy escapes prison and the
downfall of Norton and Hadley, is one of the best climaxes in any film. 10/10.

No love interest, no car chase, no big battle, no great views of the country,
but the best tale you will ever find on film, a wonderful story with things that
will chill and warm you. This has only one problem, you can only see it the
first time once.

Don't even see where the doubt can come in. Everything is so clever, it's just
incredible. A cinematic masterpiece if there ever was one, I think this film
achieved near perfection. Justice gets served, and the showing of how being
well-mannered and thoughtful makes you grow on people, as Andy does with
everybody in this film. Not only an amazing plot that throws many surprises at
you, all leading to an ending that eventually pieces itself together, showing
off the intelligence of the lead character, but also one of the very greatest
stories of friendship, between Andy and Red particularly, but all of those men
together become like a family. Nothing will ever top this.

Yeah, this is a movie to which all other movies aspire when it comes to dark
drama and redemption or salvation stories. Though other movies on this list may
have better dialogue, directing, and maybe better editing, but the heart and
soul of this movie make one feel the blood, sweat, and tears that the characters
in this movie go through as they live their ill-fated lives in prison.

Much like Schindler's List, this movie makes you start feeling actual pain and
sadness as the characters are met with trials that a normal human being would
quickly start giving up on life if experienced.

It is a beautiful work of art.

5 Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back

The best Star Wars movie ever released. "I am your father" remains such an
influential and famous line in film history for a good reason.

Best sci-fi movie out there! It has one of the most iconic scenes, lines, a
clever script, a compelling plot, and a great deal of character interaction. The
effects of this movie were fantastic for its time and it was insanely
suspenseful. The ending wasn't as happy as everybody expected, but it certainly
left a cliffhanger. The ending would just make you upset, making you want to
say, "What about Han Solo?" Those were my thoughts when I first saw this movie,
and I actually thought they'd never save Han again. Most of the scenes were
improvised and later became iconic. Most of all, it had the most iconic spoiler
in movie history, and this spoiler never leaked so easily at the time.

It may sound nerdy to say this, but who cares? It's Star Wars. Yes, the film
series itself only arguably had three actually good movies (the first three
released). But those three movies are some of the best movies of all time. Yeah,
the effects are dated, but there's not much we can do there. Star Wars was a
huge success itself, but Empire tops it any day with its darker, suspenseful
theme. This is my favorite movie of all time, with Back To the Future 2 and Lord
of The Rings: Return of the King filling numbers two and three respectively.
Empire Strikes Back is just awesome!

The best movie ever hands down. We got:

1. A great introduction scene on Hoth for the rebels and the first rendition of
the Imperial March theme while looking at the Empire's Fleet.
2. A look into Vader's ruthlessness as he mercilessly kills subordinates that
fail to produce results. Pretty humorous at times too.
3. Our very first introduction to Yoda's character. His wisdom is applicable to
real life, and those training scenes with Luke and Yoda on Dagobah are some of
the best scenes in movie history.
4. The first time we see a massive, futuristic city in Star Wars (Cloud City)
with incredible practical effects. In total, Empire explores three different,
totally unique planets in depth (Hoth, Dagobah, and Bespin), making the galaxy
feel that much larger.
5. And finally, of course, the greatest narrative plot twist in all of human
history: Darth Vader revealing that he is Luke's father.

This movie has it all!

6 Pulp Fiction

Everybody does their job. Great direction, great acting, great writing,
cinematography - everything just works. It's funny, it's dramatic, it's
thoughtful, it's sexy; it's definitely one of the top 10 movies of all time.

I have to vote for Pulp Fiction because it shows almost every element that I
love to see in a movie. With no real main character, it gives the viewer an
opportunity to connect more with all the characters and not only like one or
two. The direction of Quentin Tarantino is just amazing. It is one of those
movies where almost every scene is good, and it always has a significant
meaning. My favorite scene has to be the burger scene when Jules starts off as a
sympathetic guy, but when the guys get on his nerves, he just explodes with
rage. Another one is when Vincent has to inject adrenaline into Mia Wallace's
heart after she overdoses. That scene is funny and really shows one of Quentin
Tarantino's best marks: black comedy. To sum it up, I love this movie, and it
will always be my number one of all time.

It's completely different from any movie, except some other Tarantino films.
Most of the scenes involve characters talking about random things, like
MacDonald in Europe or pot bellies. That's what makes it so refreshing and
hilarious. You might think that random chit-chat would bore the audience, but
Tarantino manages to make the dialogue unique and somehow interesting.

The movie lacks a clear beginning, middle, or end. It's not presented in
chronological order, which sets it apart from your average film. There is no
specific goal to be achieved by the end of watching this movie.

A kick ass movie. It brought back Travolta, and basically invented Sam Jackson
and Uma Thurman. Best script ever. Best and most unique characters conceived of
in any film. The dialogue isn't plot driven. The dialogue has just as much care
out into it as the plot, which is told in an inverted order, and in 3 different
perspectives. There is so much dialogue, all of it quotable, and while most
films have "that one amazing scene" this one doesn't, because there is no
tedious or in intriguing scene, it's perfect from start to finish. This movie's
soundtrack rivals that of Saturday night fever. This movie has so many pop
culture references, South Park would get a boner.

But best of all, there isn't a single bad performance in this movie, every
performance is perfect. Pulp Fiction isn't chronological, but itge different
worlds fit together like a jigsaw, something later films would try and fail to
do. This movie has been quoted to death, and Ezekiel 25:17 is now on a poster
necessary ...more

7 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

This is really when all the effort of the previous two movies (also great) paid
off, and boy, did it pay off big time! This is when all character arcs reach
their conclusion. Everything from the first two is developed even further, with
many new rich things added to the universe. All the themes (friendship, support,
overcoming obstacles, not giving in to selfish desires) are well portrayed and
fantastic! The acting is all stunning, and despite the fact that it was 2003,
the special effects are some of the best ever seen to this day! Almost every
line is perfection! This movie truly deserves the top spot.

It's like in the great movies list, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered.
Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes... you didn't want to know
what was number 1? Because how could it be number one if it wasn't from Tolkien?
How could the list go on when so much bad has happened? But in the end, it's
only a passing thing, this shadow. Even bad movies must pass. A new vote will
come, and when it comes, it will shine out the clearer. Those are the movies
that stay with you. That mean something. Even if you were too small to
understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I understand. I know now. Folk in those
movies had lots of chances of turning back only they didn't. Because they were
holding on to something.

That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it's worth voting for.

By all you hold dear, on this good earth! I bid you vote! Men of the West!

There is simply no better. This movie has much to offer, with wonderful, lovable
characters, an excellent score ranked as #1 on this website, an excellent plot
with wonderful actors and quotes... As Samwise Gamgee says: "It's like in the
great tales, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and
danger they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how
could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so
much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow.
Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will
shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant
something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo,
I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of
turning back, only they didn't. They kept going, because they were holding on to
something... That there is some good in this world, and ...more

Come on. There is no greater movie ever made. It's that simple. You will never
experience any better movie in your whole life.

8 Back to the Future

Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies! I've watched it soooo many
times, and it's great! Number 2 is okay, but the first movie is a classic. I
like Biff because of how he acts when he's mean, but I don't like him as much as
the other characters.

I loved this movie to death. I've watched it at least 50 times, and it is truly
awesome. I literally was smiling to death when Marty's dad finally stood up to
Biff. Sure, Titanic was great. But I kind of wish Starman was on there in its
place, it is an incredible science fiction romance, watch it before you die.
Overall, this movie was amazing. It keeps your heart racing, and even after
watching it so many times you're hooked to the epic ending. I fell in love with
this movie.

This film is perfectly recorded. All the times of the film fit together without
any mistakes. In any of the films, it is possible to emphasize that the
imagination of the creator of the film is colossal and great. At that time, no
one could have imagined that there would be flying skateboards and things like
that (and that hasn't happened yet).

Why isn't this higher!? Every actor is so genius! The script is so hilarious. I
quote it everyday. And it was such great effects for when it was filmed. I
simply love it.

9 Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope

What's this talk of modern Star Wars movies being better than the old ones? Mind
you all, they barely used CGI, and the people who worked on Star Wars made it as
big as it has become. It also launched the careers of legends such as Mark
Hamill, Harrison Ford, and Carrie Fisher. Don't forget that the original
trilogy's movies contained the most famous and recognizable soundtracks ever.
The acting was better in the old movies, and I think people like the newer
movies better mostly because others are criticizing the newer ones, and they
prefer the action. I do appreciate the prequel trilogy and sequel trilogy, but
think about all the factors. If you do consider all the factors, the older
movies are better than the newer ones.

Surely, number one and I'm not a fanboy. In terms of entertainment, cultural
impact, and industry impact, it is the greatest ever. It changed filmmaking
forever, revolutionizing special effects through ILM's collaborative
interdisciplinary work. It brought back classic, epic orchestral film scores. It
generated mass marketing and promotional products never seen before at that
scale and created a collectibles industry that thrives today (but there is a
landfill downside). It took unheard-of or relatively new actors and made them
global stars. It created archetypal characters that are recognized worldwide. It
broke the studio system for good. Arguably, it created the first film, game,
book, etc., franchise. It has lines of dialogue known across the globe. It
successfully blended numerous genres and cultures into a seamless, believable
universe. It fostered diversity through the concept of different races, genders,
and peoples living together in a shared universe. And, as well as all ...more

This is the movie that literally put Star Wars on the map. This movie consisted
of great visual effects and a well-orchestrated soundtrack, not to mention the
atmosphere as well as the cast. Everything about the movie when it hit its 1977
premiere was beyond exquisite. The original cinematic release of Star Wars is
where it's at, and the Special Edition is kind of crap compared to the original.
Coming from someone who watched Harmy's Despecialized Edition, I can see why
Star Wars became such a big deal. The newer Star Wars movies have been a real
hit-or-miss, especially The Rise of Skywalker. But while the new movies are not
really good, Episode IV is where the golden standard for Star Wars really
shines.

An amazing film! So inspirational and iconic, with characters such as the
beautiful and sassy Princess Leia, the wise old Ben Kenobi, the naive but
likable Luke Skywalker, and, of course, everyone's favorite Sith, Darth Vader,
and smuggler, Han Solo. The best performance is Alec Guinness as Old Ben, but
Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford also do an excellent job. Mark Hamill does well,
but his highlights are definitely the other two excellent films of this awesome
trilogy.

10 Avengers: Infinity War

The Godfather may be a classic and have a good plot, but I still find it boring
at the same time. I have watched The Shawshank Redemption, Forrest Gump,
Schindler's List, Terminator, etc. They are very good movies, and I enjoyed
watching them, but not as much as I enjoyed Infinity War, Endgame, and Civil
War. My point is that no one should see all these new generation movies as bad
ones. Some of them are as good as those classic movies you consider the
greatest, or even better.

The best movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! No spoilers!

Everyone knows this movie has a lot of sad deaths, but let's not let that
distract us from how great this movie is. It does get dark and twisted to the
point where it surpasses DC. This is the story of Thanos, a villain who will
kill anyone remorselessly if they even think about standing in his way of
finding all six Infinity Stones and destroying half the universe. All the
Avengers, along with other MCU heroes, team up as one to fight Thanos and his
army. The ending is something that no one expects.

This movie is not only full of action, planning, and fighting, but it also has a
different type of mold that it follows. While most movies have an ultimate bad
guy and guys just fighting him, and they win eventually and one or two dies,
this one has a "bad guy" that is understandable on his side, who wants a
"grateful universe." It also doesn't end how you expect it to at all. And the
problem isn't small. It's the life of half of the universe. It is full of
sacrifice, choice, emotion, and battle.

I love Infinity War. The acting is stellar, as usual, the effects are
mind-blowing, the action pushes you to the back of your seat, and the ending is
shocking. This may be one of the MCU's best movies ever and may continue to be
one of its absolute best for a while. It is actually one of my favorite movies
of the 2010s. But when comparing it to other eras' movies, this movie is
outshined. More modern movies have more action and adventure, but usually lack
good storytelling and plot. I love a good storyline. Thankfully, Infinity War is
one of those action movies with a good story. Still, I'd put lots of movies
ahead of this one in terms of quality, such as Citizen Kane, The Godfather, City
Lights, On The Waterfront, 8 1/2, and Parasite. This is just my opinion. To some
people, these movies may be pretty boring because they are people who like
action, which is fine. Some action movies are absolute works of art, like LOTR.
Now, onto another point, some may call this a masterpiece. That's ...more

THE NEWCOMERS

? The Last Emperor

The Contenders
11 Avengers: Endgame

Pretty good, but I just wanted to point out to the fans that the box office does
not judge the quality of a movie. If the box office were really the determining
factor, then movies like Transformers and Fast and Furious would be considered
some of the best movies of all time, while Shawshank Redemption would be
regarded as the worst movie ever. That logic is very stupid. Saying that Endgame
is the best simply because it is the highest grossing movie ever is pretty dumb.
Endgame is good, but it is nowhere near comparable to masterpieces like The
Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Citizen Kane, etc. In fact, it is just an
average blockbuster that is executed well.

To the person who talked about foreign films and classics, I have an answer.
People these days, especially kids, don't necessarily need a masterful plot. As
long as the plot makes sense and is good, and has good action and good humor, it
is considered one of their favorite movies. Kids don't like drawn-out stories or
romantic or tragedy movies; they want high-stakes action, humor, and a big
battle at the end, which is perfectly fine. I'm one of these people, in fact.
Like, I thought Godfather was too long, and I'm not joking when I fell asleep.
Just 'cause movies are classics doesn't necessarily make them good. Like, Pulp
Fiction was a classic, but I didn't like it. To me, Endgame is the best movie of
all time, and I will admit I'm probably being naive since I haven't watched
Forrest Gump, Citizen Kane, Parasite, Shawshank, It's a Wonderful Life, and
stuff like that. And when I grow up, it will likely change. But to me, it is a
masterpiece and the greatest movie in my teenage eyes.

I'm sick and tired of people saying this is overrated. To be honest, this is
getting more underrated than overrated these days. People always say whoever
likes it are just kids, but know that my sister is literally in college and
loves this movie. Not to mention, if you have seen this in the theater,
teenagers and adults were cheering and crying. If not, just look at the
reactions. When I see why people hate this, the reasons are ridiculous and
weird. Even if the plot was messed up sometimes, it was mostly great and
understandable, which is what we need. I also want to mention that nobody cares
if the action is in the end because a good movie needs excitement, not just
action. "Endgame" has romance, action, comedy, and more. So please, stop haters.

My favorite movie of all time is Endgame. It was a beautiful, emotional, funny,
and absolutely mind-blowing finale to the Avengers franchise. The soundtrack,
plot, and characters are all beautiful. There are sad scenes that make me cry,
which is rare for any movie to achieve. There are also funny scenes that make me
laugh. Moreover, the overall best fight I've ever seen includes mind-blowing
moments like Captain America lifting up Thor's hammer and the iconic line, "I am
Iron Man." I need not say more.

12 The Lion King

This movie is the best! I love the idea of it, and it's really cool to watch.
The drama and stuff are great, plus the animations are amazing! You never feel
bored watching this movie, and it has some valuable lessons behind it. It's a
great movie. Who are your favorite characters? I like Mufasa, Kovu, Simba, Zazu,
Timon and Pumbaa, and Kiara (I think that's how you spell it).

Not only does the year 1994 have three of the most liked movies on this list,
but it also has the most popular animated movie as well! If you ask me, this
movie is really, really good when you look at the basics, but not impressive
personally... Then you look at Scar! He is the best classic Disney antagonist in
my opinion. Scar alone makes The Lion King go from a movie in the standards of
Disney during its best eras to the second-best Disney Renaissance film. Also, I
like the songs quite a lot.

The Lion King is an animated Disney movie, so you probably wouldn't jump to call
it "the greatest movie ever". But if you really think about the plot, it's an
amazing story with lots of deep meanings and life lessons behind it. You have to
consider it one of the most exceptional movies of all time, and it can
definitely be compared to huge theatrical films...even in spite of the fact that
it's a cartoon!

Watching this movie reminded me of my childhood, and that, in my opinion, makes
this one of the best movies ever made and certainly the best Disney movie. No
other movie can make me feel like I am in my childhood again, sitting on the
couch, watching movies with my family.

13 Titanic

Titanic is a masterpiece and my favorite film of all time.

The story is predictable, yes, but 1: It's Titanic, we all know what's going to
happen. 2: I am invested in every scene, and I never feel bored when I watch.

The characters are so memorable and likable, especially Jack Dawson.

The special effects are unbelievable. The fact that they built a full-scale
recreation of the Titanic, tilted the sets, and put in all that water is
incredible.

The sinking scenes are intense and some of my favorite scenes in cinematic
history.

This movie gets way more hate than it deserves. It is an incredible film and my
favorite film of all time.

Absolutely brilliant movie! I loved the relationship between Jack and Rose
because how often do you find a poor man and a beyond-rich woman falling in
love? James Cameron deserves an A+ for this movie. Titanic is one of those
movies that, no matter how old it gets, will always be a classic. My parents
love it, I love it, and hopefully someday my kids or the next generation will
too. Leonardo DiCaprio was perfect for the role of Jack because, one, he is one
of the greatest actors of all time, and two, he was extremely attractive, which
made girls love this movie even more.

Titanic is a movie that reminds people of what true love is and how long love
can last. I'm so happy that somebody made such a movie that can be remade by
future generations. This movie became a hit because, aside from the beauty of
the Titanic ship itself, the love story between Jack and Rose is also beautiful
because only love can change a woman by a man. It's a great movie ever. Please
have a remake of Titanic. I'm sure this is going to be a hit again.

The movie has a really catchy factor, even though I haven't finished watching it
because the electric current went off. I still watched three-fourths of the
song, and I really love it. I like the story of how they met and how love was
eternity for both of them! The story is exemplary and so sweet.

14 Inception

I can without a doubt say that this is the best movie I have ever seen. This
movie is currently at #11 which is great but I have seen all the 10 movies above
and I love them as well, don't get me wrong, but this movie does every aspect to
perfection. The story is impeccable and every time I see it I notice something I
hadn't before and another piece of the complex puzzle falls into place. The
acting is superb, there isn't a single performance that isn't perfect. I
challenge anyone to find a movie that has a better overall collective cast
effort. The special effects are unreal. The scenes with Arthur in the hotel are
some of the best technical achievements in movie history. The action is
fantastic and you are on the edge of your seat throughout. And last, but
certainly (certainly) not least, the musical score is one of, if not the best
movie soundtrack that I have ever heard. I listen to different movie scores
occasionally while working, and Hans Zimmer is definitely my favourite film
...more

This movie blew all others out of the water. The music soundtrack was wonderful,
the best in any movie I have ever watched. My compliments to Hans Zimmer. The
acting was great and almost flawless, although in my reviews, I did find a
couple of minor mistakes, as with every great movie. Leonardo DiCaprio's
performance was exquisite, as were many of the other actors and actresses. The
plot was well-developed and fast-paced, although the resilient-minded will be
able to follow along without a problem. One of the brainiest movies ever. During
my entire career, I have never seen a concept just as amazing as the dream
within a dream, though it was mainly how Christopher Nolan executed that was so
great. Christopher Nolan, you are a genius. The directing, writing, and
screenplay were all exceptional. The filming was great, and some of the shots
blew my mind. The hallway fight scene is one of the best ever created, and
although not a normal heist movie, it is amazing. Also, the love story and
...more

If movies were art, this would make the Mona Lisa look like some corny painting
made by kindergarteners. It is just so deep, so awesome, so flawless... you
can't go wrong by voting Inception. It deserves the top spot just like pizza
deserves the top spot for best foods, water deserves the top spot for best
drinks, etc. Unfortunately, there are many people who don't understand the
mind-bending concepts and amazing ideas of Inception, and that is why this isn't
ranked much higher. Those who do, however, will agree with me that this is a
near-perfect movie. Trust me, this deserves your vote. If you haven't seen it,
quickly watch it on Netflix. Vote Inception.

I'm starting to get a bit ticked off that Inception isn't ranked above extremely
overrated movies that are much worse, such as Infinity War, Titanic, The Lion
King, Terminator 2, Jurassic Park, the Star Wars movies, and Pulp Fiction. All
of these are mindless movies that would never beat Inception in an unbiased
expert comparison. Read the other comments for reasons why Inception is so much
better. Movies like Forrest Gump, The Lord of the Rings, and Back to the Future,
I can understand being higher because they are good and more popular.
Masterpiece movies like The Godfather, The Dark Knight, and The Shawshank
Redemption are pretty much equal to Inception. But Inception really is the best,
and I can't vote for anything else while it is unfairly ranked this low. So that
was my two cents on why I voted for Inception. Please vote for it as well so
that it can actually get where it deserves, among The Dark Knight, The
Godfather, and The Shawshank Redemption. Thanks for hopefully taking ...more

15 Jurassic Park

I really think this is one of the best movies ever made, just like Titanic or
Avatar, a true masterpiece. It doesn't only show the greatness of nature but
also the strong bond between animals. We are just like them, maybe from other
species, but we have a connection with all animals. God made that. Jurassic Park
is so pure and emotional; it makes us believe the world was so beautiful back
then, way better than now. It gives us hope that no matter what happens to the
Earth, nature will find a way to save itself.

My name is Dustin Bible and I cannot believe that Jurassic Park is only 33. I
mean I love dinosaurs, despite the fact that mixed dinosaurs from two different
time periods and that doesn't make sense to a dino expert like myself. I mean
come on who was the fact checker on this. I read the book and the dang T-Rex
doesn't have such a dramatic part. Since we are on the book what happened to the
aviary. They saved it for the crappy third movie just so they could get that
overrated short-armed chicken looking T-Rex more screen time. Why didn't they
have an "brontosaurus", sorry I prefer the unofficial name.

Why is this movie 16th? This is one of the most successful movies in history.
The suspense is unbearable, full of action, and it revolutionized the way movies
were made.

This movie rocks! It's not my favorite, but I just went with the first one I
could find. The visuals and the creation of the dinosaurs were outright amazing.
Great acting and script, mixed with an epic theme and always suspenseful... It's
not the best, but come on! It deserves much more than 34. I mean, Twilight
ahead? I like dinos myself, so that's why I like this movie, but easily the best
thing about this is the director, Steven Spielberg. Come on! This guy made Jaws,
E.T., and Saving Private Ryan! Vote for those or Jurassic Park. Jurassic Park
changed movies forever. And that makes me happy.

16 Terminator 2: Judgment Day

The first Terminator was alright and passable. The third one was totally awful,
but Terminator 2 really knocks it out. Arnold gives a great action performance.
It's one of the greatest action movies of all time and deserves to be in the top
50. It's not right to have the best Terminator down this far! It won 3 Academy
Awards for its groundbreaking effects, which are so much better than the first
one. James Cameron is a director who prides himself on making fantastic movies,
and this is his best piece of work!

This movie is the very definition of science fiction. It has so many memorable
catchphrases. The movie features an amazing villain, something that many other
movies lack. The scene where Arnie goes into the molten metal to destroy himself
was incredibly cinematic. The movie has aged well and still looks good even
today, despite being made almost 30 years ago. In 30 years from now, this movie
will still hold its place as one of the greatest blockbusters of all time.

First, Terminator wasn't bad. The second one? Amazing! You know, action movies
usually have lame storylines, but this one has an amazing storyline and lots of
action. James Cameron really worked hard on this masterpiece. This isn't your
same old Michael Bay movie, people. This is a true action sci-fi movie. Oh, and
I just want to say Die Hard is also a good movie... just saying. It also has a
storyline. By the way, don't watch the third Terminator or all the other
sequels. They're trash like Donald Trump.

This was honestly my favorite Terminator movie! Arnold Schwarzenegger was so
funny in this! I love the interactions between him and John Connor.

17 The Matrix

Parallels the most important events in modern history - being perpetrated right
now. We've been kept in the dark for far too long, like those in the Matrix not
ready to be unplugged. Dare to learn the truth and take the red pill. But
remember, all I am offering is the truth, nothing more. Do separate searches on
YouTube: agenda 21, Ron Paul, economic collapse, Bilderberg, Alex Jones, Jesse
Ventura, Judge Napolitano. Volumes of overwhelming evidence. And then, no, you
won't be able to go back. But if you could, would you really want to?

I'm glad this is in the top 10. I've seen many of the others, but The Matrix is
just so endlessly watchable! It's absolutely mind-blowing and thrilling, from
second to second, from beginning to end. The acting is brilliant, and the story
is awesome and super original, with twists, turns, action, romance, and
coolness. It's an absolute masterpiece of cinema. Almost everything about this
film is perfect... almost. No film is perfect, but I think this is the closest.

Once in class, we had to do a work on a dystopia movie. I suggested to my
partners that we watch Matrix, as it would be a great choice for our project.
However, they refused because they thought it was too old. They will never know
what an amazing movie they missed out on! The action is on point, the universe
is super interesting, and the characters are cool. By the way, I heard there
will be a Matrix 4, and since it is still being made by the Wachowskis, I am
curious about it.

I gave this a plus because it was the best, in my opinion, over what had been
chosen as top ten so far. The Matrix blew me away. I could not believe the depth
of the writing, the special effects, and the impact it had on me. Just a very
awesome movie.

Some others that should be top 10, like Schindler's list and Raider's of the
lost ark deserve a place on the top 10 as well.

18 Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith

The best Star Wars movie and my favorite movie ever. There's so much action,
with the best being Anakin vs Obi-Wan, and so much emotion, especially right
after that fight. All three prequels are very underrated, and this is the best
one.

Best Star Wars Movie! I don't get why so many people hate the prequels...It
shows Anakin's story before Darth Vader and Anakin is the reason that 4, 5 and 6
happened. The Obi Wan Anakin fight was done so well. No other Star Wars fight is
even close to being as good as this one. And so many people think that Hayden
Christensen was a bad actor but I think he did a great job. He played Anakin the
way Anakin is supposed to be played. Dramatic, angry, etc. Luke is a great Jedi
and all but I like Anakin's story more than Lukes. "You were the chosen one!"
Even if Anakin is creepy sometimes haha

Best movie of all time, and that's saying something because I really love
movies. It's also my favorite Star Wars movie. The prequels are better than most
people say they are. I think the first six Star Wars movies are Amazing. This
movie has great action and drama. Just so good. I also really like Mission
Impossible: Fallout, Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire, Indiana Jones and The
Temple of Doom, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

In my opinion, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is the best Star Wars
film. Please be aware that my reasoning for this contains spoilers for this
film, so please stop reading this now if you do not want spoilers.

Episode III is my favorite Star Wars film because it is funny, exciting, and
explains some things mentioned in the original trilogy. Furthermore, the fight
between Anakin and Obi-Wan on Mustafar was so awesome!

19 Saving Private Ryan

First off, I don't think Endgame deserves to be #17. Most of the Marvel movies
are of top 50-100 caliber, but not top 20. Sure, they gross the highest, have
high ratings, cost lots of money to film, and have great actors. Don't get me
wrong, I love the MCU, but there are simply other films that aren't as big and
epic, yet better than movies like Avengers. Films like Shawshank Redemption, The
Godfather, and Forrest Gump are much better in my opinion. Sure, Endgame has
high ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, popcorn, IMDb, etc. However, ratings don't
really prove how good a movie is. You have to watch a movie to actually see how
good it is. In fact, I didn't even make this comment to talk about how I love
Saving Private Ryan, which I do. I made this just to clear up any
misunderstandings anyone has had about these things. Some people like these
things, and others like other things; that will never change.

This is a must-watch for everyone. Most people take our freedoms for granted.
This movie shows what we fought for, and if the brave souls who fought in that
war saw our world today, I think they would be disappointed to see all of the
chaos that is going on. However, this is a really hard movie to watch
(especially the scene where Vin Diesel tries to save a girl, and what happens
after that is easily the saddest scene in that movie). Enough said, just please
go watch that movie.

One of the most underrated movies of all time! As a service member myself, I can
say that huge credit is owed to Steven Spielberg for the realistic nature and
accurate detail of all his war movie productions. This movie is no exception!
The acting is fantastic, the movie is well directed and well written! The heart
of the movie is the value of life and our actions. Everyone should see it!

Tough choice to make one pick. So many good movies. Most movies in the top 20
are all great. Get Harry Potter out of there and move Silence of the Lambs up!
Saving Private Ryan was amazingly portrayed and a tribute to the Greatest
Generation - never forget that our country wouldn't exist without them.
Fantastic generation and fantastic movie.

20 2001: A Space Odyssey

This film is incredible, mostly because it transcends its label of being a
"film", which is a feat that only a few pictures have ever achieved. It is an
experience. Kubrick's vision propelled decades beyond 1968, offering us the
chance to contemplate our existence, the advancement of technology, and why we
are here. The stunning visuals hold up wonderfully even to this day, and the
orchestral contribution can take you from awe and beauty to fear of the unknown
in minutes. A truly glorious and atmospheric depiction of what lies beyond.

Truly, a one-of-a-kind viewing experience, 2001 is so unique that the film
industry, with its current reliance on sequels and action-packed blockbusters,
would never even consider making a film like it now. Kubrick was a meticulous
director who never pandered to viewers. He expected his audiences to think for
themselves and reach their own conclusions about what the film meant. Some
people may say it's slow-moving and too cerebral, but it's an unforgettable
movie.

Evolution, Artificial Intelligence, Hallucinatory Experiences, Consciousness
Expansion, Space/Time - the Masterpiece of the Master Director. If it's anything
less than Number One, you either didn't see it or you don't get it. The pure
horror of AI controlling man. Look, Dave, I can see that you're really upset
about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill,
and think things over.

I can't believe this is only number 128 when it's one of the deepest films ever
made. It's filled with messages and ahead of its time. Great special effects,
everything about it is perfectly done. Stanley Kubrick is so underrated on this
list, half of his films should be on here.

21 Fight Club

I don't know if this is a spoiler, but this movie has the best twist I've ever
seen in a movie, except for maybe Saw. Also, the book it is based on is written
by Chuck Palahniuk, who is my number one author.

Atmospheric, enchanting, and inspiring in a darker sense than most can imagine
until watching this movie. It's brutal and manly as hell (literally). While some
find it confusing and at times boring, the ending twist is more than enough to
make almost everyone I know go, "Wait, what happened? We should watch this again
sometime."

I've watched it many times, and you can bet I will watch it many more times.
Having a bad day? Watch this movie. It won't brighten it up, just make you feel
really badass for enduring such a day. It makes you feel like the scum of the
earth, and that sensation alone is one of the best things I've ever experienced.
It's a good reason to watch this movie any day of the week.

Note: My parents found it boring, but they aren't very bright nor interested in
the many different aspects of the mind. So if you, like many others, do not
enjoy the beginning, keep watching. It will all make sense in the end. And if it
does not, learning a bit about ...more

This is a bit overrated, but I still liked it. Brad Pitt was in it, and I think
that he was the only reason that this movie was overrated. Anyways, this male
aggression thing that spins the town into a spiral of destruction towards
oblivion is quite badass. I think that since the movie was called Fight Club,
there should have been more fight scenes, but I guess for an average
teenager/adult at the time, that was enough. I didn't think there was too much
drama, for a movie in that genre. I think that it deserves its 7.8/10 average. I
think that there was a bit of an over-hype at the time, though. Even though hype
back in 1999 (not very long ago) was a bit rare, it was too much for this
average, sit-on-the-couch, "drama" movie. I still loved it though.

Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see
all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation
pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us
chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy we don't need.
We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great
War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great
Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one
day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And
we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off.

22 The Wizard of Oz

My all-time favorite movie! I've loved this movie since I was 2 years old and
used to ask to wear blue dresses with red shoes! I don't care if the special
effects are old-fashioned; that makes it even more entertaining to watch! Judy
Garland was fantastic in this role!

The two best movies ever are a toss-up between Gone with the Wind and The Wizard
of Oz. Many terrific and wonderful films have been made since, and many of them
are perhaps more entertaining and maybe even, in many ways, much better than
these two. But in terms of longevity of popularity and immense cultural and
movie influence, I don't think you can top these two.

This film swept the world in a torrent, still breezing through our culture to
this day - Somewhere Over the Rainbow, though Dorothy brought color to the
corners both so recently bare from the Depression and soon to be swept by a War
that would split the world apart. The metaphorical understanding of "There's no
place like home" echoed as a call to innocence being lost, an innocence that
people of all cultures wanted to return home to. And yet, as the world was
already losing its way on that lovely gilded road of 1900s inventions and change
- likened to gold, the brightening of daily life and travel - the one reliable
companion was Toto, in this case, girl's best friend. The hero, our lost
daughter, our hope for the future, found the strength and wisdom in her small
frame to carry through not only the Lion's cowardice, the Scarecrow's
foolishness, and the Tin Man's doubts about his heart, but also to dispel the
illusions of the man behind the curtain. One could ask, does this ...more

I remember, as a young boy in the seventies, looking forward to the annual
airing of this movie on television. It was like a holiday treat. This was, mind
you, prior to the advent of the VCR. The performances were legendary and each
one was deserving of an Oscar nomination.

23 Goodfellas

The Godfather is what Hollywood's phony mafia looks like, and Goodfellas is what
the real mafia looks like. It is the most accurate mob movie of all time (Casino
is 2nd). It was such an accurate portrayal, and even if you listen to interviews
with people like Henry Hill and Michael Franzese, and others familiar with the
story, they'll tell you just how accurate it really is. Joe Pesci won the
Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and he absolutely deserved it. Ray
Liotta was fantastic, as was Paul Sorvino. De Niro was better in Casino, but
solid in Goodfellas as well (he's an absolute moron in real life, by the way.
The man is a retard).

This film made me actually want to be in the mafia. It made it seem so cool and
fun to be an organized criminal. They were like movie stars with muscle! They
did whatever they wanted! It's about a man named Henry Hill, who has been
involved with the Sicilian mafia since he was 13 in 1955. He grew up in it, and
we watch him grow up in it. It's like a biography of this man. Actually, it is.
There was a real Henry Hill that this film was pretty closely based on. Also,
the cast is awesome. Ray Liotta rules, Joe Pesci is awesome, and Robert DeNiro
is just Robert DeNiro. I instantly recognized Ray Liotta as the voice of Tommy
Vercetti.

Why the hell is this film so far down the list? And seeing Avengers was above
it. What does Avengers have? Special effects, special effects, special effects,
nothing... Those who voted for those petty films above, just watch this Martin
flick. It's one of the best. The direction, music, acting, everything. De Niro
was living in it, guys.

What a brilliant film and an undeniable masterpiece. The story is fantastic and
intriguing, the acting is flawless and captivating, the characters are
interesting, and you really feel connected to them. Everything about this film
is perfect, and it is one of my favorite films of all time.

24 The Godfather Part II

Superbly written storylines and amazing performances by the principal actors,
including Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, and Diane Keaton, are why PART II is
considered a cinematic masterpiece. It's often called the best of the Godfather
trilogy. Given its presence in hip-hop and general pop culture, kids will want
to see this film. Yet, due to violent content, parents might want to think twice
before allowing them to do so.

The film has the unmistakable air of saga as it moves back and forth through
time, juxtaposing Michael's emotional struggle with becoming a don to that of
his father's seemingly effortless rise to power. In doing so, Francis Ford
Coppola is able to maintain an amazing balance of powerful character-driven
stories with the ruthless violence we expect from a gangster film.

Easily the greatest gangster film of all time and possibly the number one movie
ever made, Part II is one sequel that steadily improves upon it's predecessor.
This film is a true masterstroke, with not a single flaw. It includes possibly
the best on-screen performance of Al Pacino's career and a host of other
electrifying performances from actors Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Lee
Strasberg and Michael V Gazzo. The cinematography is beautiful and the script is
immaculate. Everything from to script, to the music, to the costuming is pitch
perfect.

The godfather part II was definitely the most superior of all the others in the
trilogy! Part I was amazing! But came nowhere close to II, Part I was just pure
crap all over! Andy Garcia ruined the whole film for everybody. This one, had
the most Oscars, and also starred the two greatest actors of all time as the
leading roles: Robert De Niro and Al Pacino! De niro took out the oscar for best
actor!

This movie is within the top 3 films of all time, and generally even better than
Part I. Al Pacino was more developed in this Part, plus great performances from
Michael V. Gazzo (Frank Pentangeli) Robert De Niro (Vito Corleone) and Lee
Strasberg (Hyman Roth) all of these men got nominated for an Oscar and Robert De
Niro ended up winning the award!

25 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

It had a great cast of actors, no doubt. The film launched the biggest trilogy
of all time. The Godfather and Part II were the greatest movies of all time, but
Part I wrecked it. Some are calling it the best movie of all time, and it's so
much better than the Return of the King. A perfect introduction into Tolkien's
world of Middle Earth and what happens. Ian McKellen is legendary in his role;
he delivers an amazing performance in this epic and possibly the most legendary
fantasy of all time!

The most amazing journey and quite possibly the greatest movie of all time if
you really think about it! The greatest fantasy of all time, nominated for 14
Oscars and won 4. Any website would definitely put this in their top 20 movies,
I don't understand why it is so damn low!?

This movie is considered to be in the top 20 movies of all time, and it is this
low? You have got to be kidding! It was nominated for 14 Oscars, including Best
Picture. It had some amazing scenery, visual effects, and excellent performances
from the actors.

The excellence of this film is matched only by the skill of Peter Jackson. The
story is intense and the action is exciting. It is a magnificent journey into
Mordor, and in my opinion, it is the best of the three due to its revolutionary
style and multiple award nominations.
