WHAT MEDIA SAY?

The film titled Vandhiyathevan: Ponniyin Selvan Vol. 1 has been in the making
for over four years. The team, though, has now released a song Ulagam en Ulagam,
which has been penned by Madhan Karky and sung by Santhosh Jayakaran. Musical
score is by Ramesh Thamilmani of who had composed the ‘Periyar Kuthu’. Karky is
also writing the dialogues for the film.

It was a dream of the legendary MG Ramachandran (MGR) to make a film of Ponniyin
Selvan, the historical novel which acquired cult status. He had even announced
in 1958 that he had bought the film rights for Rs.10K, and that he would be
directing and producing the movie besides playing the lead role of
Vandhiyathevan (see poster). But he met with an accidentand the project never
took off.

எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் நீண்டநாள் கனவாக இருந்தது. போஸ்டர்வரை வந்து அந்தப் படம்
கைவிடப்பட்டது. எம்.ஜி.ஆரின் பிறந்தநாள் அன்று அவரது கனவை நனவாக்கும் விதையை
சனீஷ்வர் அனிமேஷன்ஸ் நிறுவனம் விதைத்துள்ளது. ‘வந்தியத்தேவன் : பொன்னியின் செல்வன்
பாகம் 1’ என்ற பெயரில் அனிமேஷன் திரைப்படமாக கல்கியின் புகழ்பெற்ற நாவலை
தயாரித்துள்ளது. நான்கு ஆண்டுகளாக நடைபெற்ற பணி நிறைவடைந்துள்ள நிலையில்
இத்திரைப்படத்தின் பாடல் ஒன்றை இக்குழு வெளியிட்டுள்ளது.
