LEAD YOUR TEAM THROUGH CHANGE PART 1

Application Challenge

ROBIN'S PLAN

In Progress

This week, remind yourself why you’re enacting a change

When you’re working through the messy details of trying something new, it can be
easy to forget why you’re doing what you’re doing. Reminding yourself of the
vision behind a change helps you stay motivated — no matter where you are in the
process.

Write down the one or two most compelling reasons why the change is important.
Consider what the change could mean for your company, your team, and/or you.
Even if you’ve previously considered why the change matters, take time to
enliven your vision by asking yourself questions, like “How does this change
solve a problem or create an opportunity?” or “What are the short-term benefits
of this change? The potential long-term benefits?”
You become more flexible. You gain confidence. You are more motivated. You
develop more skills. .
Review your work from the perspective of your change vision and reframe it. No
matter what task you’re facing, you can make it more meaningful when you see it
as a step toward achieving your vision. For example, let’s say you are stressed
because you need to figure out how to reformat your files to fit the new
technical specifications. With your vision in mind, you might reframe the task
as: This new format will help us reach millions more customers.
We will attract more opportunities.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recommit to work toward the change vision. What are 1-2 things you can do right
away to make progress? When you proactively choose to keep working toward the
change vision, you’re more likely to have the persistence that hard, long-term
change requires. Plus, when you finish a change strong, rather than limping
across the finish line, you’ll have the momentum to ask yourself, What’s
possible now that wasn’t before?
Set milestones. Set clear and achievable goals.
