ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As part of the 2024 State Budget, New York state has
included a provision that the state’s COVID-19 Sick Leave Law would be “sunset.”
This was included in the budget proposal that Governor Hochul introduced in
mid-January.

The law states “required employers to provide sick leave and other benefits for
employees subject to a mandatory or precautionary order of quarantine or
isolation.”

The provision cites a change in quarantine requirements, and how it applies to
new employers.

An additional memorandum from the state added that since the COVID-19 federal
state of emergency has ended, it would be “prudent” to end this five-day
benefit. The memorandum also cites New York’s nation-leading paid sick leave
laws.

July 31, 2024 was set as the “sunset” date for the law in the memorandum.
